Ummm... yeah, that bird's probably dead.

Reading from Wikipedia:

A bird was struck around 2.5 seconds after lift-off. The bird impacted near the very top of the external fuel tank, and appeared to slide down the tank in subsequent frames of the video. NASA does not expect any adverse affects from this impact, because of the slow speed of the spacecraft when it occurred, and because it did not impact the shuttle.
Of course, there's no adverse affects on the shuttle, but that bird is either dead or emotionally wounded for the rest of its life!

Actually, now that I think about it, if the bird slid down the external fuel tank, it must have been cremated by the solid rocket boosters.

Roast pigeon, anyone? 🙂

Well, now all the bleeding heart animal people will be condemning space exploration because a fvcking crow got plowed by the shuttle. Whiny bastards! 😀

Next mod on the shuttle its a little car horn. This way they beep it just before they light the SRBs.

That or those little bumper mounted deer whistler things that scare deer away from the road as you drive at over 35mph. They'll adhere them with double sided tape to the front of the orbiter. 😀
