Using Shuttle AK35GT/R w/ newest bios, running RAID0 w/ 2 maxtor 40gb u133/7200rpm drives, NTFS, 16k stripe size

Windows XP Pro w/ RPP 1.02 via patch and george's 0.19b latency patch

Newest Highpoint 372 bios and driver

for SOME reason with HDTACH 2.61 it reports a CPU utilization of 45%!

what's giong on?

yeah ide takes CPU but nowhere near 45 % unless u're running a PII 300 or so with 4 HD's accessed at once ....

I have 2 to 3 % util with heavy writing (a defrag) and under regular circumstances the CPU util is completely negligible, so something is seriously wrong with yer sys, but it is possible that yer raid is completely software in which case it explains the heavy utilisation....

I dont really reccomend IDE raid, it wasnt designed for that ...

do u mean ur box gets a constant 45% CPU usage when the hdd is accessed?

btw, do u get the same reading in the task manager in winXP ?

The Raid chip does the raid, not the OS. - you cold not acces HD's under dos, if windoze would do that for you...
you should try to reinstall OS (ok, i know, not the prefered thing to do....) do you have the os on the regular ide-chip?
do you have raid 0 or 1 or 0+1? you could hook up one disk to the regular ide and look if is still uses 45% cpu. by the way, is the
raid set up correctly? it's not using pio mode by chance... (just asking)
