Umm, where are Windows 8 touch monitors?

I am not even remotely interested in getting a touch-screen laptop, or tablet device, but I wouldn't mind a full sized monitor for Windows 8.

Not only for the UI, but imagine a game like Dues Ex, or Mass Effect when you have to unlock doors and such, it would actually be kind of nice.

Are there any real touch screen options for desktops? I know there is some Dell monitor floating around, but I remember it was sort of crappy for Windows 8 use.

Actually, it wouldn't. Having to reach up from the keyboard would get old after the first time.

Damn. Now that you say that, it's probably true. Touch sucks...lol
Still won't stop me from buying one I guess.

I tried one of those HP touch-screen desktops. The experience sucks. However, they're not running Windows 8 either. Perhaps Windows 8 would make them suck less, I dunno.

Yup. With a stand-mounted tablet, it can be OK (depending on what you're doing), because it's very close to you. With a big desktop monitor, not so much.

Considering there hasn't been anything really announced outside of tablets and all-in-ones at IFA, my guess is Microsoft has an embargo on OEMs not to announce other Windows 8 peripherals until a later date. We don't even have leaks of stuff that should be shipping in 6 weeks when Windows 8 is released, so that stuff has to be coming. Mice, keyboards, touchscreen monitors, etc...

ergonomics of vertical touch screen suck. you will not be able to keep your arm up for 8 hrs a day.

Then don't mount it vertically.

Exactly. Anyone using a desktop with the typical setup isn't likely to use touch all the time. If you are using a computer hours a day, chances are you are typing a lot and using a mouse. That isn't likely to change with the addition of a touch interface. It isn't as if Windows 8 forces you to use touch.
