Can't get a Umax astra 1220u scanner to install on Windows XP. Interestingly enough the only driver they offer is the 610p which is signed.

The driver files seem to exist in the umax.inf but when I try to 'add hardware' it just shows the astra 610p in the listing.

I'm completely worn out trying to google an answer.........

If you are looking for help, you might be better off in the tech support forum.

I assume you went to the Umax website?

I managed to get a 1220P functioning properly under XP.

about your 1220U:

"WindowsXP built-in drivers support directly basic scanning functions of this scanner. The installation of Umax drivers is not necessary. The limitation of the Microsoft drivers is the lack of support for scan buttons and transparency adapters. See Microsoft Hardware Compatibility List."

you need to instal vistacan. current version 3.7

If only that link actually worked.

After going to XP I found the Umax scanner to be a bummer. I bought an HP 2200c and now scans are effortless. It is discontinued model but I am sure the new HP scanner will solve your problems. I just plug in scanner, hit button, direct scan to application and done. Less than a minute. Scans on Umax took up to 1/2 hour to get what I wanted and that was after untold hours of trying to get xp to work with it.

I seem to remember Umax charging for drivers a while back, but you could get them for free off umax.co.uk 😛

I remember trying to get an old umax to function in win2k at work, boy did it piss me off that umax was charging for drivers... 🙁

It still doesn't work, maybe it's SP2 or maybe the scanner is broken.
time for a new scanner.

I bought a microtek scanmaker 3700 about 3 years ago to replace my Umax 1220P. Its a great scanner.
