Vtrac, my invoice showed a few days before the scanner. And some got it a few days after. I would wait for the invoice before I send in my rebate. $30 is a lot of money to risk. Ape Out.

Who has gotten this scanner to work under Win2K? The results seem to be mixed. If you did get it work, please give specifics to help us all.

Thanks,
Jeoff

After installing the european umax drivers Win2k detected the scanner as a 2100U.. did NOT work. I then just changed the driver over to the 1220U that Win2k bundled with the OS, and it works, but not well. It often just freezes though scanning and no matter what I do it won't work until I reboot. This scanner is a POS... I don't know if its worth the $20 I paid for it. I don't think I'll ever use Umax again.

I missed out on this deal because i thought it lacked win2k support.
-_-

but i went to my local bestbuy and they had their floor model for sale for 15 bucks so i decided to grab it.. had nothing else with it but i had a power cable and usb cable already so wth.
Oddly enough even bestbuy had a rebate.. sadly i cant use it since i dont have a box -_- arg

anyways.. my 2010 works great in win2k.. i tried the 3.7 drivers and each time i scanned my computer would reboot so in uninstalled and installed the 3.52-SU..has to be the SU not just U..drivers.. then rebooted..installed the 3.55 patch rebooted.. worked great.. Computer recognized it as a 2000u..dont know why people are getting theirs as 1660 or 2100..maybe thats a problem..

CoolMint, I'm having WIn2K problems. Can you post links to the 3.52SU and 3.55 files (I'm looking at the US FTP site now and don't see those. 🙁).

BTW, the drivers from the CD work for WinME. I think I updated to 3.73 software, but kept the CD drivers.

vtrac-

I've got a scan. E-mail me.

BTW, I am now happily using the WIn2K-included Umax Astra 1220U drivers (with its own TWAIN driver). No VistaScan at all (at least, until I find a version that works with the Win2K drivers). I've tried 3.54, 3.72, and 3.73 ... I think.

How did you guys get to use the Win2k 1220U driver? I try to browse the driver list of all devices and the only two that show up are the 610 and 600. I do have the UMAX.INF file in my win2k installation and it has the 1220U in it.

Thanks...

Hey guys, I got mine (works fine - to my satisfaction). The thing is, I sent the rebate in with the invoice that was with the scanner box. It didn't have the price, etc on it, just the invoice #, shipping address, purchase order, product code and product description, order number, and date. A few days later I get another invoice with all the extras on it including the price, shipping cost, tax, etc etc. Does this mean that I sent in the wrong invoice and am screwed? If so that is ridiculous. Anybody else have similar situation?

jeoff-

You should be able to do an "update driver ..." from the device manager and have it list all available drivers. The 1220U is built-in to Win2K (i.e., on the Win2K CD).

I was unable to get the 1220U driver to even show up to be selected.

However, I did get the 2000U driver to work.

There's a lot of info at the following siteUMAX Tips and Tricks

The basic steps I followed were:
1. Install Vistascan 3.52SU
2. Install Vistascan 3.52SU Win2K Upgrade

I tried Vistascan 3.7 before 3.52 but received a blue screen so I went ahead and used 3.52SU

My scanner was automatically detected as a 2000U.

Man was that software cd warped! Anyway, the software on the CD refusted to wrk right under Win98SE. Took 2 hrs to dl the (older?) ones off the UMAX site. Works fine. Slow scan, but anything is better then another parallel device. Can you believe I've got 2 besides the printer!!! UGH:disgust:

I have not recieved my rebate just yet. I'll read the fine print and see if it is overdue.

One interesting tidbit. I am doing early beta testing on the new home version of Windows 2000 (Whistler.) I was shocked and pleasantly surprised that this beta one software, found and installed this scanner as Umax 2000 when I upgraded over my working Windows 98 SE OS.

Just checked the rebate and it says 12 weeks after they receive the rebate form. This means around Christmas the 12 weeks will be up for everyone who got in on this deal at the beginning.
