Um...my AC seems kinda retarded

The wind and everything is great, and it gets cool, but it takes for freaking ever to get cool (like 10-20 minutes...which my trips are all shorter or just as long as that).

I thought new cars would have an AC that gets cool really fast.

its an 07 Camry.

Is this because it has two filters (my brother in law was telling me about how it has an extra filter for the cabin) or is it because its broken?

thanks!

Sounds like a problem to me. It shouldn't take more than 10-20 seconds to get up to full coolness.

Put it on MAX AC so it recirculates the inside air. If it is really hot outside this is the fastest way to cool the car down. If it does not work correctly on that setting you may have an issue with the system.

depends on how hot the car is to begin with...

10-20 seconds seems way to short to fully cool down a car unless its already cool.

That is a very misleading statement. The "newer" refrigerant, better known as R-134a, is not as efficient as R-12 when used in a system DESIGNED for R-12. When the system is designed for R-134a it is fine if not superior. The big difference is R-134a needs a condenser with a larger surface area to work properly. Newer condensers are either larger of designed to be more efficient than older ones. If you retrofit an older system with R-134a there is definitely a good chance it will not work quite as well as it did with R-12.

Brand new car? AC should get ice cold (at the vents, not the whole car) in under 60 seconds. Something's really wrong. Take it to the dealer. Don't touch anything. Bitch at full volume until it's fixed.

I meant the air coming out of the vents, not the entire car.

great lol...i want to kill myself.

i figured something was wrong...i leave it at full blast recirculating the whole time, which is kinda loud, and im still hot.

my 2001 dodge ram 1500 gets cold air at the vents in about 5 seconds most days. im in az, so this time of year it will take a few miles to cool the cab of the truck.

and putting it straight to recirc is a good way to get it to take forever to cool your car. let it run on fresh until the car is about normal temp and then kick it over to recirculate, it will get downright icy (given that your ac is working correctly). my kids always complain that it gets too cold if i use the air lol. we have the winders down more than we use the air.

My guess is that your system is either over charged or undercharged from the factory. R134a systems need to be running at the right levels to cool properly. They are MUCH more sensitive to charge levels than the R12 systems of the past.

You should take it in under warranty and have the system level checked.

You DEFINITELY have a problem with your AC. Take it in for warranty work.

Its loud because it is opening the flap under the dash so you will end up hearing the blower louder, then when the flap is closed and it sucks the air from outside. As far as it taking that long to get cold is because it is low on freon, or there is a definite problem mechanical/sensor wise.

im taking it to the dealership early next week.

damn this.

it seems like it has a lot of trouble when its hot, but occasionally out of the blue it works great. when its cold(er) it works pretty good too.

bottom line is that i shouldn't have to question how if its working or not...the fact that i do means theres a damn problem.

thanks guys.

Wow...I can't believe no one has asked yet...is there a mouse in it?

Definitely sounds like something's not right...take it in to the dealer. SHOULD be covered under warranty.
