UM/MSU Hockey game

cliffs:

U-M/MSU Hockey game.

U-M Player has recently returned from a serious off-ice neck injury.

U-M player cleanly checks an MSU player.

Another MSU player suckerpunches him from behind and knocks him to the ice near the boards.

The MSU player he checked before comes over and slashes him in his neck while he's on the ice motionless.

U-M player taken to the hospital but ends up fine.

MSU players both suspended the rest of the season.

You can hear a pretty clear chant of the U-M fans feelings on what they had just seen happen on their home ice. The U-M player's dad apparently attempted to go after the MSU player in the locker room after the game.

Drako, perhaps you missed the part where the motionless person on the ground was hit in the neck with a hockey stick. Or maybe you felt like that was okay. In which case, I can only say wow. The sucker punch thing happens; not the first time I've seen it, and it won't be the last. The slashing of the motionless player, though? Fucking reprehensible.

The MSU player who threw the sucker-punch should definitely be tossed for the remainder of the season; if the injured player is out for more than a season, the slasher should be out for just as long.

he was probably still chirping, even though he was motionless.

Uhh... what?

It makes me proud to be a spartan. Just kidding.

These things, and the enormous parties/riots that make national news make me pissed off at MSU students. We're an excellent research institution, but a select few students give us a bad name.

he might have been motionless except for his chirping yapper. therefore the extra stick in the neck may have been warranted, we shouldn't assume. there are two sides to every hockey battle and 9 times out of 10 the vigilante justice carried out on the ice is well-deserved.

U of MD went through the same thing in the early 00s. If we won a big basketball or football game, we'd riot. If we lost, we'd riot. If we rioted, we'd riot to celebrate the riot!

Wow, well I hope the next person you have an argument with follows you outside and runs you over with his car. Because that's exactly what you're insinuating is OK in this situation.

I play hockey you dolt, we're talking about on-ice incidents, not some little fantasy you dreamed up in your head full of ATOT mashed potatoes.

I agree with you about the slashing was entirely uncalled for, and that guy should be suspended, as he was.

The cross checking, or sucker punching as you call it, happens all the time. It was a retaliation hit for knocking his buddy, the slasher on his ass.

MSU had their enforcer/thug line out, so the UM player should have been ready to take some shit back after the check that he gave. It is unfortunate that the UM player was hurt, but hey, it is hockey.

I think you took the bait. That said, the site links to some other sites that have a more in-depth analysis of the situation. The slasher actually held off so that he could get a better shot.

Ballsy.

The problem with us is, it's not just a certain time period, over the past 15-20 years we have had a steady stream of riots. Cars, couches on fire, tear gas shot. The whole works.
