Good idea! We'll worry about stuff after it happens!

bills that haven't had any action on them in a YEAR AND A HALF are dead.

the text of the bill isn't even as long as the article. it doesn't mention any dates, like when a draft would start. that was all made up.

really the reporting on this has been completely irresponsible. good job media, changing the world instead of repoting it!

Hah, yes just because it's popular it means it's drivel and I can't think for myself.

Coming from a guy who lives in Texas I find you a smidge biased. Not all Americans are idiots and can't think for themselves.

I suppose you're the few who think Bush is doing a superb job. I'm surprised you didn't get hired into his cabinet.

This bill is dead. It hasn't even been talked about in congress in about a month and a half. Can we just let this die?

OMG, news flash. Bill Clinton likes cigars!

This is ok with me as long as politicians are not exempted from serving on the front line. Young men die for old mens wars. Maybe that should change.

Exactly 🙂.

He likes them even more when they have that special sauce added...

And Dave Thomas. Oh, wait he's dead.[/quote]

when did he die?:Q

btw, although this looks like it's not going to get passed etc, if it were, all hell would break loose probably.

One other thing that I think is good that comes out of this is what happens if something HUGE hits us. Say several nuclear strikes and an invasion of the States or something "ridiculous" like that. It would be mass hysteria in the U.S. If everyone has training, then everyone would know their place. We'd have the combat ready, we'd have the hospital workers, other civil servants...it wouldn't be as crazy and would be better planned...

First off, I totally missed the part where you said your age....whoops....

Second, that scenario is the dumbest scenario I've ever heard....lets make EVERYONE a military officer "just in case". Sure we are taking a couple years of their life for something most of them will never need, and probably never want. But hey, JUST IN CASE a nearly 100% impossible situation arises, it sure would be nice.

The likelyhood of the situation you suggest actually coming to pass is absurd. The only nations with that much firepower (and yes, in order for an invasion to take place this would HAVE to be initiated by a nation) know all too well how we will respond to that.

The sad/freightening fact of the matter is, if it comes down to it and we are getting nuked into oblivion, even if we can't pinpoint who it is (say some magical mystery plot by terrorists to make us think another nation is doing it) more likely than not the response would be to fire off all, or nearly all, of the missiles we have at anybody who might even be sneezing in the direction of those responsible.

NK? Gone. Russia? Gone. China? Gone. Middle East? Nice glass parking lot.

I don't think those in charge of our country would neccisarily sit around saying "ok were being nuked, lets be absolutely sure we don'tget the wrong people."

And if its on a smaller scale, lets say, half a dozen nukes here in the US. Who's going to invade us? A twitchy trigger finger on a crapload of nukes is NOT what you want to be messing with. We'd be looking for ANY signs to tell who did it. And terrorists just don't do invasions.

The situation you describe is better served by a prepared network of resources. Hospitals, FEMA, National Guard to help with the grunt work. Not a military society.

How is this still in OT & not moved to P&N (Preachers & Nitwits 😛)? People who don't want to be soldiers don't make very good soldiers, remember a lil bitty country in Asia called "Vietnam"? The current system, as with any complex system encompassing so many people, has its flaws - but is much better than a draft. The bill didn't stand a chance, it was merely a statement.

Did we really need a Presidential Commission to figure this out? Maybe they should have put in something about "a man has a penis, a woman has a vagina" in case that wasnt firmly established yet.

Yea, and the average human head weights 8 lbs.
