Why is this little square at the tip of my remote mouse cursor? How can I get rid of it?

I think that's showing you were the remote cursor actually is located in case they get out of sync.

Have a look at the cursor-related commandline parameters. One of them might be what you're after.

Under VNCviewer:

-nocursor
Do not display any local dot mouse cursor.

That might do the trick. I'll try this tonight, thanks.
