UltraViolet (video library service) shutting down July 31st

Customers can continue to purchase new movies and shows and redeem digital codes that are still active by following their normal redemption instructions. Depending on the associated retailer, they may or may not be added to the user’s established UltraViolet library.

After July 31, customers' UltraViolet libraries will automatically close, but many movies and shows will remain accessible through previously-linked retailers. The service suggests that users login to MyUV.com, choose Retailer Services, and verify the retailers linked to their library.

Not sure where else to post this, but I just noticed I received an email from them in my spam folder, letting me know they are shutting down. Luckily, I only had one movie in there (most of mine are with Movie Anywhere).

I have a lot of UV movies from buying the Bluray with the UV digital copy.
I had already linked them to my VUDU account, so I should be good to go.

The only people who probably heard of them are the ones that actually buy DVD's that have their inserts with the free movie codes...

Yeah, I don't think that I even bothered redeeming those UV codes in the DVD's I got. I only redeemed the codes that worked with iTunes, since I actually had an installed player for those.

Generally, those slips of paper gave you the option of using iTunes or Ultra Violet.

Either way I always got Ultraviolet confused with Æon Flux.

I guess its time to go through my movies and see what I need to redeem

If the movies are too old, you won't be able to redeem. But if you can, you can link your UV to vudu and somehow over to moviesanywhere. MA works on most devices which is handy. I have over 500 DVDs and probably about 50 in my MA library so far. I guess it's time to pull them all off the shelves and see which ones will work.
