I'm still using my Ultra 500w modular PS that was FAR from Radio Shack a couple years back :) I guess power supplies have come a LONG way since then.

Stoneburner: Is ULTRA better than CORSAIR or THERMALTAKE?
HARDCOP.com saying CORSAIR is made by cheap parts, I can't find review about Thermaltake Toughpower XT W0229RU 750W but they like ULTRA 1000w.
Wich one is better ?
ULTRA-1000W, 70A, Lifetime Warranty, TAEPO CAP's- $162
Thermaltake XT W0229RU 750W-60A, 5 year warranty, ALL JAPAN MADE parts-$115

I would believe it goes Corsair > Ultra > thermaltake if we're talking about the 1000w models. JG recommended this PSU to when I was in the market for a 1000w about 2 years ago.

If there was a corsair 1000w for $160 though, I would go for that one. However, I haven't seen one at this price.

As for Thermaltakes, however, here's a review of the 850, which may be based on teh same platform as the 750 (not sure, you should dig through the jonnyguru.com forums)

http://www.jonnyguru.com/modul...ews&op=Story5&reid=147

6.5 versus a 9.5 for the ultra.

Where did HardOCP say that ANY Corsair was made with cheap parts??

The Ultra linked is a different model number than the one HardOCP or Jonnyguru.com tested and it is totally possible that it has been severely gimped since the models that Madmat and Paul Johnson reviewed.

The Thermaltake XT IS NOT made from all Japanese parts...that is a bold faced lie.

If we are talking about overall product line then Ultra doesn't even deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as Corsair or Thermaltake. 90% of what Ultra sells is pure CRAP. The X3 line however are very good and I would say the specific model that madmat and Paul Johnson reviewed is better than the Corsair HX1000 or Thermaltake XT or Toughpower lines. Other than the X3 line and some of the EE PRo lines though...everything Corsair sells is superior and the Thermaltake XT, Toughpower and Extreme Power RX lines are all better.

This unit weighs in at almost 10 lbs so. It's get a bit of heft to it.

One thing that worries me the most is ... How noisy is it. I have a corsair 650Watt and it's really quiet. Another question is. What about the warranty? Lifetime great? But, I have not heard of Ultra do you think they will be around 4-5 years from now to honor it?

Good Deal if you really need 70Amps on the main 12Volt rail. I think if I were to drop 150 on a PS I'd look into PCP&C but that's just me. I guess I like buying from an American company.

Ultra is owned by the same company that owns Tigerdirect and now CompUSA.com and CircuitCity.com....Systemax.

BTW...Ultra IS an American Company...so is Corsair

I have a ultra X-pro800 that I got from Johnny himself. It was a great PSU for about a year I think, it is now dead. died while it was daydreaming. I do not know whats wrong with it. It will power a system, but it makes the system randomly shutdown and restart. It was quiet too, and has 80mm fans

Is there anyway to check? I don't see any follow up reviews.

don't know...someone asked on jonnyguru.com and jonny said there are any number of reasons for a model number change. There may be no major change and it could be a cost cutting move. He suggested someone be weary about it. I kind of doubt the new model has been reviewed, since it is king of old and has already done the review circuit.
