The Ultra X-Connect is avaliable for $49.99 after a $30 mail-in rebate at Fry's Electronics in Sacramento. Happy Holidays to everyone!

It's a Fry's local deal, but you can find the X-Connect PSUs at Case-mod.com. Very nice, but not for a small case.

I want one of these PSUs. It will go perfectly with my Antec P160 case w/ window. 🙂
Too bad no Fry's even close.

This is the PSU with the plug in power cables? Ahhh, it all makes sense now 🙂

Yes, but the cables are very rigid, so if you're cramped in your case they may not fit well. I'm taking mine back and going with an Antec. It is nice, though, that you only need to use only as many cables as you want.

Edit: For those with a Micro Center, they have them for $67 before the rebate. It only applies to the black one though.

Ultraproducts.com lists a promo for this p/s where they
will pay up to $50.00 for buying it, and sending in your
old Antec p/s. So the one at Fry's could be almost free??
oops--see now that this offer may not be combined
with any other--so no rebate?

First, I think this is a local sale only. The offer is not avaliable online at Outpost.com, at least to my knowledge. Second, the amount Ultra pays you for sending in your Antec power supply depends on the model. You only get paid $50 if you send in a NeoPower.

first things first DAMN YOU ALL WITH FRY's okay now that I got that out be warned that the ultra x connectz are actually powmax psu which do have a tendency to blowup. That said these are nice power supplies

Simple tangential question about Ultra products...

Is Ultra in any way affiliated with TigerDirect? It seems i saw all these Ultra products there first...and for some reason my head equated the two...but I don't know if there is in fact any correlation...

Yes
About US..... We assemble our own PCs and sell them under the trademarks Systemax?,Tiger® and Ultra?

So, is this a good power supply or not? I see 34a on the 12v. I need to get a psu. Am looking at the Fortron 530 or similiar Enermax or thermaletake. Around $85 tops.....

These are my voltages using an X-Connect powering the following: Notice Prime95 running, defragmenting drive, and my 6800 running full blast.

Prescott 2.4AGHz @ 3.6GHz 1.575V
ABIT AI7 - SLK900U+Vantec Tornado
eVGA 6800NU
RAM was Kingston Value 200FSB 3V
15K Ultrastar (Adaptec 29160) + WD Raptor 36GB + 280GB storage

+ 2 DVDR drives + 4 case fans + MatrixOrbital LCD blahblahblah

It was the only PSU I used that didn't dip much with my system. I had a Coolermaster 400W that couldnt even power it on.

Only complaint I have is with it is the stiff cables, since my case is cramped its very hard to set up.

Not bad for a cheap powmax psu. 😉 CPU would eventually hit 68-70C though. stupid heat

Links please as I was told by Ultra they are not manufactured by Powmax.

Just picked one up in Las Vegas. Looks like great build quality, the cables are outstanding. The 5 or so different reviews that I read all gave it good marks. The Fry's shelf price was $129 and it rang up $79.99 before tax. After tax and rebate cost is $55. They had the similiar one with the Blue Light in it and different SKU# for a shelf price of $149 with a $30 rebate for a total of $119. I can live without the light for $70 cheaper. This is an outstanding bargain.....can do rebate online too!

Could someone please point me to a copy of the rebate? It's not on onerebate.com.

Fry's didn't have a copy for me!

TIA!

Hey Eyewearknowsocks,

You are correct, the rebate is not online yet. The code is supposed to be UL-1176 and it aint there. I do have a form for manual submission. You've got plenty of time to send it in (30 days after purchase). Keep checking online and if it doesn't show up, PM me and I will scan a copy of my form and e-mail it to you.......The damn thing has plenty of juice (kind of scary actually, the 12v rail is pretty hot at 12.7v, hopefully I won't blow any caps!) but it is pretty loud compared to my Antec 380True single fan. I think a Panaflo tweak may be in order...... This PSU is crying for overclocking right out of the box.....

Edit: I took this POS (I mean PSU) back to Fry's, so I don't have the rebate form anymore. I didn't feel like having a silicon barbecue on my hands.............

Maximum PC reviewed this this month and it ended up crashing during their tests so buyer beware.

This PSU is kind of crazy for voltages:

+12v.......12.71v
+3.3v.......3.68v
+5v.........5.11v
+5v standby.....5.10

I e-mailed Ultra to see what they think. I'm taking it back to Fry's. It's beautifully made with outstanding cables, but is also pretty loud and the voltages are well????????
