Ultra X-Connect 400w Black Modular PSU - $20 AR

I've had no experience with any modular (let alone X-Connect) PSUs and saw the deal when I was browsing cases earlier today.

Besides, I only posted this because modular (X-Connect? or others) PSUs used to cost near $90 or so not too long ago?

Any reason someone might hate it?

they may looks all nice and high quality on the outside but on the inside all it is is a very cheaply made PSUs , you might get lucky with a good one that won't tost your computer hardware but I wouldn't risk it. I have lost a couple systems to cheap generic PSUs

Haven't had any problems with my x-connect PSU. Been working like a dream 🙂

I just received an email that my rebate has shipped. This is like staples ez rebate turnover time. I am quite impressed.

Plus the ps is working nicely. Plus it looks sweet.

FYI....MAKE COPIES OF YOUR MIR SUBMITTAL BEFORE YOU SEND IT!!!!

I bought (from Tiger Direct) an Ultra-X PS with 2 MIRs (both from Ultra-X through OnRebate.com) back in March 05. I received 1 MIR and OnRebate "claimed" my second MIR submittal never arrived. OnRebate instructed me to send them a copy of the MIR and after I did, they just approved my 2nd MIR (didn't get payment yet, but no reason to suspect it won't arrive).

PS...I say "claimed" above because I'm VERY diligent (e.g., I only use business sized envelopes, I weigh the submittal to ensure sufficient postage, I copy every MIR to include the outer envelop with the stamp on it, etc.) with MIRs and in ~60+ MIRs I've NEVER had any firm claim they didn't receive my submittal. Not saying it can't happen, but "lost" mail is really RARE contrarary to popular belief, especially with business sized envelopes.

Regards,

Bud

I RECEIVED mine already (yesterday)... fastest rebate turn around I've ever seen!!

The nephews have no idea what they're looking at in terms of quality, etc. , but they know it looks cool in the new computer we're building together for them And if they're happy, so am I...

AC Input: 115V/230V 8.0A/4.5A 50-60Hz
DC Output: 400W (Max Combined Watts)
+3.3V: 30A
+5V: 32A
+12V: 16A
-12V: 0.8A
-5V: 0.3A
+5V: 2A
Dimensions: 5.9 x 3.4 x 6.2 (in); 150 x 86 x 158 (mm)

It looks awesome.. Modular is great. But, 16A on the 12V rail is HALF the output of my 350W Enermax. Don't plan on running more than a single hard drive with one of today's video cards and processors with that power supply.

It seems to me like a lot of the PSU companies are going the way of car audio manufacturers.. You can buy an el-cheapo 1000W amplifier that outputs less than half of the energy than a 400W Rockford Fosgate, MTX, or other high-end..

IMO, 12V rail is by far the most important. 20A should be bare minimum. It's really sad to see so many 250W power supplies have higher output than 500W advertised..

My 500w Ultra Xconnect has 34A on the 12v rail. It's been working great with my power hungry 6800 ultra. It is a shame that the 400W version only has 16A.............

Now if they only made them with 24-pins... 🙁

P.S. I dislike 20-pin to 24-pin converters.

They sell a cable that will go from 20 pin (psu) to 24pin to the motherboard it isnt native but it still have the same look as the regular modular cable. I picked up mine for 10 bucks on xoxide.

Does ANYONE have an Ultra-X PS (with 20-pin ATX) with a PCI-E video card (6800 GT or X-800 XT, or BETTER) AND a mobo with native 24-pin ATX connector?

I'm building a new system and have an Ultra-X PS with 20-pin ATX connector and want to know if anyone is experiencing good/bad luck with a HIGH END power hungry graphics card. Seems like EVERY time a see a build with an Ultra-X PS the person is running a 6600gt card or less (or an ATI card like the x800xl which does NOT require the extra power feeds etc. of the higher end cards).

Thanks,

Bud

You pay $59.99 and get a $40.00 rebate.

It is $59.99 - $40 rebate = $19.99 AR. Like I said in my OP 🙂

You can probably run a lot of high end components with this PSU fine. I wouldn't trust it though. Someone posted some thing before that showed the Ultra X-Connect series are junk even though they look good.
One I bought before died soon after I bought it. POS made my computer crash several times and I could see the rail going haywire. Anyways it died a couple days later as I said. lol.

Hmm...these PSU really look super nice.

Go for the 500 Watt PS...it has 34 amps on the 12 volt rail compared to the 400 watt PS with 16 amps.

Since these are 20 pin ATX PS and if you're going with a mobo with native 24-pin ATX socket (e.g., nVidia nForce4 with PCI-E), I wouldn't want to take a chance knowing my PS didn't have the "extra" 4 pins/wires supplying juice to my PCI-E slot and my power hungry video card with only 16 amps on the 12v rail.

The extra couple of bucks is worth it for 2x the amps on the 12v rail.
