Ultra Wizard Blue Mid Tower Case

$40
-$40 rebate
Free shipping

If purchasing, remember to select Ground shipping when checking out because Outpost (Frys, but I'll keep calling it Outpost to distinguish between it and B&M Frys) will default to 2nd day shipping, which may be pricey on a case.

I own 4 of these now. I bought 3 from RS and this last one from Outpost. They all cost right at $10AR.

I would rate the visual look at 9, very clean, industrial server looking. The blue power LED negates the need for a night light, it is BRIGHT as he11. So bright in fact I can cast a shadow from it over 15 feet away.

I would rate build quality at 10. None of the 4 have had any manufacturing defects whatsoever.

I would rate the overall construction and engineering as 5. Back panel is flimsy and bends when trying to remove the MB plate that is seemingly pressed in with a 20-ton press. I ended up just hitting them all with a good hard stoke. It bends the sh1t out of the MB plate, but I'm not using it anyway.

They use those damn "bend once and throw away" card plates. I have like 19,000 extras from other cases so it is not an issue for me, but for many people it might be if they removed cards for whatever reason then have a mouse hole in the back forever.

There are lots of drive bays. But the bottom ones pretty much block your front panel fan air flow. I used some Antec Blue LED fans I bought in bulk at Buy.Com way, way back when Blue LED's were not pervasive and $10 each was a literal steal. I finally used the last one this week.

When combined with the free 500W Ultra supply, the $99 NewEgg 3400+ MB combo, the $25 NEC DVD from Outpost, $30 200Gb Maxtor HD, and a $30 512Mb RAM stick from Staples, it makes for one cheap, good looking box.

Tomer, thanks for a very informative review.
I would probably buy this thing without shipping charges.
But with $17 shipping and a sizeable rebate, I'll pass.

I've routinely bought Dell's off the outlet for cheaper than that and they come with an OS.

I'll pick these things up all day if they're truly FAR, but with tax and shipping it's close to $22 for me in CA, unless this is B&M too.

And, btw, the intake is supposed to ge blocked by your hard drives.

If you install drives in all 5 internal spaces it could restrict airflow, but with two or three spaced, they get cooled with plenty of flow coming through for the rest of the case. Anyway, I thought positioning the drive cage adjacent to the intake was intended to improve drive cooling.

Years ago Dell made a solid machine which even shipped with a, gasp, real OS disk. These days I wouldn't take one on a bet. Perhaps their $1,500 boxes are still OK but the cheapo ones they scream about in their advertising are crap. We are forced to work on them from time to time and they are barely above an HP/Compaq which we recently doubled are rates to work on. And if you need to call Dell Tech Support, Lord help you.

Problem is the drives almost touch the fan and if you load the bays up, virtually no air moves past them. I typically run 3-4 drives per box so in this case I dropped in 2 below and 2 above.

air is immensely compressible. the front airflow isn't blocked at all, and the hard drives are well cooled. i don't see why you wouldn't want that.

Bump

I just bought this from outpost. It is now $40 - $40 MIR with free shipping.

I also picked up the Thermaltake Purepower 500W Power Supply for $59.99 - $30 MIR also with free shipping.

$40 for both seems pretty hot to me, pending $70 in reates, of course.

😉

I think you meant to post on the other thread telling them not to start new threads when one already exists...

Besides, they didn't mention the Thermaltke PS over there, so technically I'm still good! 😉

There was no other thread when one already exists.

This thread was 6 weeks old. It was originally posted at a different price($60 vs $40), and it was bumped by you hours after I made the other (currently locked) thread. You
should have stayed with the current proper thread instead of bumping an older one at a different price.

So we have a new rule here: If something that was posted 6 weeks ago, changes price, and someone creates a new thread with the new updated info and price; then that new thread should be locked?

If so, then we have about 25 current threads that need to be closed/locked due to this rule.

Thanks for the Tip.

Looks like the links to their rebates isn't working. I'll call them on Monday.

Same here. I can't believe it but now I'm actually preferring OnRebate. It's worth it to me to pay for a fast rebate, I'm currently waiting on close to $300 in MIR and there's no telling when I'll get em.

Only for the Express Rebates though. I actually have 3 checks here from them now from rebates submitted without the Express option. I submitted them August 3rd, or almost 4 months ago, OUCH. I've been calling them every week for a month and a half.

With the Express they are fairly fast, not as fast as they claim, but acceptable.

Check this sh1t out though, they sent me a second check for the same rebate. I waited 2 weeks before cashing it and figured, cool, finally I'll come out on the winnign end of a rebate screwup. So I cash it finally and the *same* day I get this E-mail:

Due to a temporary system error, we recently sent you multiple rebate checks for the same approved rebate application. The duplicate check has been voided in our system and this message is being sent to let you know the check number that is now invalid and should not be deposited.

Rebate Confirmation Code: ***************
Invalid Check Number: *****

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Thank you for using OnRebate.com!

Basturds.

This is alive again, new rebate valid 12/1/06 - 12/31/06.
Site mentions limit one purchase between 12/29/06 & 1/02/07, but you need to buy by 12/31 to get the rebate.
