Ultra vs. OC pro?

Here is the deal. I don't know whether to spend 250 on an ultra, or 170 on a pro that could be overclocked. Assuming that I have the money for the ultra, but don't neccesarily want to waste money, can the pro be overclocked up to the ultra and provide the same performance, and in addition, can the ultra be overclocked at all? I couldn't find an article on anandtech giving advice, so mayeb someone out there with experience could shine some light here. thanks much

I wish no one had asked, an old s3 540 thing, it is no good anymore, can't even run MWarrior4 decently at 800 by 600 by 16

Pro would be the better value. I would just get whatever is cheaper. It seems they can all overclock pretty good these days. But also remember that geforce 3, kyro II are both retail now and radeon 2 will be out soon as well.

since u got a decent cpu, maybe u should try to find a kyro II... I doubt it will be much more expensive than the gf2 pro (cheaper i think)

no interest in the KYRO 2, it is just plain worth 20 more dollars for a pro

KII is good, and the Pro is good for only thing - 3d acceleration...

Slap some ram sinks on the pro and you are rocking. The Geforce 2 PRo can be overclocked to 250 (core) easily. Check out this review. IT is pretty damn close to the ultra.

the anandtech overclock guide suggests 220/404 for the gts, what would be the optimal overclocking numbers for a pro? Does overclocking the core significantly improve anyhting (assumeing no CPU bottleneck)? Furthermore, what heat reduction measures should be undertaken? Also, my friend told me that the latest detonator drivers dont support overclocking, is this true or is it merely neccesary to regedit? thanks
