Is this the retail or oem though? In the details section it has package type as both OEM and retail..

It is the oem, I got one last time around and am very satisfied with it.

I might get two more and rset up a raid array on my server (after another IBM DeathStar disaster, can you say *clanck....clanck....clanck*?)

I was looking for some drives in the range of 200GB each, but I like these, and I know what I am getting when buying Seagate, in my opinion still one of the more reputable HD manufacturers with history to back it up.

dang... think I threw that magazine away. or was that the small biz version I threw away? oh well... doesn't matter now as it is rotting in some landfill already.

but might got for the deal anyway. I do like seagate drives, very, very quiet.

So this thing runs HOT?

Would it be sufficiently cooled in a shuttle SFF?

Under sound emission in the Tech specs the 120GB says 25db while the 80GB says 2.4db. I am guessing this has to be an error. The 120GB seems a little high and the 80GB seems way too low. Anyone know the realy sound level?

Don't think the WD is as silent, is it? 3 year warranty IS tempting, though...

I want to get the 120GB version to replace a IBM 60GB 60GXP before I have one fail for a 4th time in under a year. Will this drive perform at least as well and be quieter? I am hoping the loudest device in my system will be my Truepower 430.

Thanks,
Brian

i have a 80 gb barracuda IV, and it is whisper quiet. Just got a maxtor diamondmax plus 2mb 80 gb to upgrade that seagate and what a huge difference the noise on the maxtor makes....so loud. The 80 gb seagate is really that quiet. Only when the light is on is when you know the disk is accessed. I was going to return the maxtor and jump on this until you pointed out the specs they have listed. If anybody has the 120gb barracuda V please confirm how quiet or loud it is. maybe i will check seagate's website.

Who makes the Dell branded one?. It is only $77 and the specs look good. Also what about the warranty?

Both Seagate's literature and every review I've read have indicated that the Barracuda V series is even quieter than the Barracuda IV series.
