I have an external CD-ROM that came with the laptop and a USB DVD burner that I occasionally hook up to it to burn a CD. For data/video files, I just grab it off my network.

Or you get a docking station or media bay (dell) or media slice (lenovo).

WiFi and USB flash drive (these are getting so cheap nowadays, you can buy 1GB drives for $25-ish, no rebates) are other options. CD-ROM is so outdated.
