Is this a decent cooler for my AMD 64 3500?My motherboard is an NFORCE3-A939 which seems to be misreporting my cpu's temps at 55-65C at idle but even though I believe it to be a faulty reading I want a decent cooler and I want one of these heatpipe coolers that doesn't require me to remove the motherboard and this one seems to fit the bill. Any opinions would be helpful.

I don't believe the Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro requires motherboard removal to install.

Is the Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro a real good cooler? Anyplace I can go to read peoples thoughts on it? It only has 1 fan compared to the one in my original post , does that mean much?

Real good? Well, it's one of the better ones, and it's a great value. There are many reviews of it - you must have missed the sticky in this forum. The title is "Heatsink Reviews".

The way the fans on the Ultra cooler are set up, the airflow will increase only a little bit (fans in series increase pressure, not flow, but if pressure increases flow might increase a little against an impedance). i.e. using 1 fan would basically do the same.

I'd be very skeptical of any Ultra product. I'd definitely want to see some independent reviews from some competent web sites that went out and bought the review item rather than chance reviewing a cherry-picked unit (or even a one-off review special that is nothing like the shipping items).

"Powerhouse AMD systems generate incredible heat."

LoL this person obviously has no clue on how much MORE heat a 4ghz P4-D smithfield will generate. :X

Dont waste your time on this this block. It uses a 6 heat pipe design on a much more compacted form then the 6pipe design on say the Big Typhoon or Zalman9500. Your better off going with a Big Typhoon since it has a 120mm fan vs a 80mm fan.

And i dont think this will outbeat the scythe ninja even :p

I am very skeptical of ultra products as well. They dont have the best record.

I just ordered it for 34 dollars shipped , can I use artic silver 5 with this cooler? I am not sure if the place i ordered it from also sends thermal paste or not but i have a new tube of artic silver here already.

Whats interesting is your reasnings for what you are saying!!
BTW--all those reasons listed are bogus and hold no validity!!
Read reviews..more than one review.....
Then understand that if somebody is popping off at the mouth how his Heatsink is substantially better for whatever reason be very wary of that advice!!

From case to case Heatsinks react differently.
Just becuase one heatsink works for you does not guarantee it will work for the next guy!!

I have seen people post concerning all the top heatsink scathing criticism saying things like..I bought the Big Typhoon and it did not cool any better that the XP 120 I was using..

or I bought the Zalman 9500 and it didn`t cool any better than the ASUS Beatle ....

and it goes on and on....

The top heatsink in no particular order are..the Ninja...Tuniq....XP90copper and the XP 120 the Big Typhoon and the Zalman 9500 as well as the Arctic Cooling Series and afew others..

You will see no dramatic drop in temps changing from one to the other....you could see a 1c - 2c drop but most likely your better off sticking with whaterver aftermarket heatsink you are using now.

Anyways good Luck!!

Not really worth 40dollars, especially seeing as you could get a Sycthe Ninja for that price.

LOL... This is Zepper's response for all things Ultra.

Nobody at Ultra has ever "cherry picked" an item for review. If they had, the X-Connect Maximum PC reviewed wouldn't have blown up! :D

The HSF is made by MACS/Casetek for Ultra. It's a heatpipe design that lifts the heat up into the airflow of the dual fans. There are thin copper plates that help dissipate the heat from the pipes if they become too saturated.

A new design actually puts the heatpipes in direct contact with the heat-spreader of the CPU and only requires aluminum fins and a single fan (MUCH lighter,) but I wouldn't expect to see that until Q3.

EDIT: Nothing against Xoxide, but I've had friends order from this OverCool company and they seem to kick ass in pricing and service.... http://www.overcool.com/exec/product.asp?item_Id=34826

Actually, MACS/Castek makes that one too.

Think like a China man. You sell to high bidder. No loyalty. No "exclusive design."

The arctic freezer pro you mean? Yes it comes with the best mx-1 actually already applied.

Hmm well I installed the artic freezer pro and I have no way of telling if its doing a better job of cooling or not..does the silver part of the heatsink get warm , as mine doesnt really at all..i wish there was a utility that directly reported from the cpu the temp as my mobo still reports between 54 and 60 C. MBM doesn't work with this board and neither does that everest utility..speedfan doesnt give a cpu temp from what i can tell for this board anyway...stupid me buys an inferior motherboard..last time i do that.

If the aluminum fins of the Freezer 64P don't get hot, then you have a very cool running CPU. 54 and 60C is definitely not right. If it feels barely warm, then it's probably somewhere around 30C.

Just as an FYI, the Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro comes with a lot more MX-1 applied than you need. MX-1 is one of the best thermal pastes out there, but AC has applied too much for it to reach its full conductive potential. Only about 1-2 rice grains (in size) of MX-1 is needed for best performance.

Yep, does come with too much. I ended up scraping off all of the MX-1 and applying some AS5 which resulted in better temps. However, I put the proper size on it after 996GT2 here gave me some of his and it performs better than AS5.

I read the review thx , is there any utility that can just read the damn temp off of the cpu itself and not need to use the motherboards sensor? My motherboards sensor obviously can't be trusted.

all AS5 products are way over rated.
The MX-1 is equal to any AS 5 product!!
