Hi,

During a recent M/B upgrade it seems that when replacing my hardrive the cable seems to have been forced in the wrong way, now the 10th pin from the left on my Quantum AS Ata-100 is broken. My H/D is working but I cant enable the DMA mode on it, any time I click Dma to auto in the bios or check the box in device manager then windows wont load until I disable it back in the Bios. Could that missing pin be my problem, are all the pins used ???

Thanks

There is one pin in the top row of the IDE connector near the middle that sometimes isn't there, but if you forced a cable in, you could try to call Maxtor (they bought Quantum's consumer drive business) and say the pin fell out, but I don't know if that would work. Sounds like you took out a useful pin (as most of them are :))

Hi,

Umm i'm confused, I have a blanked out pin slot on the cable and a pin missing on the bottom so you know what way to put the cable in. I now have one at the top where I assume we forced in the cable and broke it off (cant see the broken pin) is this normal. Is there sometimes two pins missing one top and one bottom ??
