Ultra compact laptop cases

A super compact case, like 1/4 in neoprene that would provide some protection.

Do these exist? I thought I recalled seeing them in Popular Science once upon a time, but I haven't seen one since then.

They call them skins etc., basically wet suit stuff made to just fit.

Not my cup of tea, I like a REAL well padded case like a Targus etc.

The whole laptop is all that fragile anymore, but a LCD is.

Yeah - I have one, and love it. I use it as a liner inside my regular laptop case. It is made of fabric coated neoprene - the same as used for diving wet suits. We have a shop here in Tucson that custom makes them for any thing - laptops, cell phones, cameras. etc. My laptop skin is a cool purple and black with a velcro fastening flap - cost me $29.

Got it hear over a year ago. The price has gone up to $31.95 for the custom fit purple one I chose.

Shinza Zero Shocks are similar to what you're referring to, but I think would only explicitly meet your criteria if your laptop was the perfect size to fit very snugly in.

shinza zeroshock is good stuff. A cheaper alternative is Sumdex Impactguard. They're pretty similar stuff (same material). Sumdex is available at ebags. I've used both and I like the sumdex a little better because it has a handle and you don't have to unzip the case all the way around to get the laptop in. The Zeroshock is like a clamshell where the Sumdex is like a slide in case.
