Ultra ATA / Abit KT7-RAID

Recently used Sandra 2001 and discovered that my IBM 30.7GB Ultra-ATA100 7200RPM hd is performing way slow. I don't have it connected with an ultra cable! DUHH! (bought it OEM) and my question is: Once I get the correct cable should I use it for both the hd and the dvd drive I have (on one cable as master and slave) or should I have the drives on separate cables and what connectors on the mb to use? I'll be looking around the web for answers but I've always done well here. By the way is Floyd still around? Thanks.

The DVD will not take advantage of your ATA cable. You are better putting it on its own separate cable.

slaveing to the hard drive will slow it down, also IBM deskstar drives have compatability issues with the high point raid controller on that board

agreed about using the ata cable on the hdd alone, as for your second question, RTFM! (if you don't have the manual check the manufacturers web site) as for floyd....well I don't know him LOL

also I am running 2 60gxp's off my kt7a-r w/o any problems, where did you read this?

From the thread title. the fm is what had me a little confused. Where it discussed using the raid connector it states to use no longer than an 18" cable and to use the master and the slave connectors. What I gather here is to put the hd on its own cable and the dvd drive on connector 1 or 2 (not raid.) Is there an updated driver for the highpoint which addresses the compatibility issue?

the 4 in 1's are for you, here is a link that contains links to most frequently requested drivers (if you can think of another email it!) check the one for via chipsets and grab the 4 in 1's

yeah those FM's are sometimes generic, I would run the hdd's off the raid controller and the dvd drive off the primary ide channel.

i found it on the web somewhere about a year ago when troubleshooting a kt7-r with a 20 gig deskstar wish i could recall more but in that situation the board was good, the drive was good but togeather they were pure ass

I have this board and I second the idea that the HD should be on a raid contoller as this is the only way to take advantage of the ATA 100 speed. The other two channels are ata66 compatible only which should be fine for all your cd/cdrw/dvd drives.
