Ultra 400 Board

Gentlemen!

I want to replace my 8RDA+ Board. I am currently running 768MB of PC 2100 w a 1700+. I am thinking about purchasing one of the Ultra 400 boards, a 2500+ Barton and bump up the memory to PC 3200. My question is, will I see that great of a performance difference with this purchase, or should I wait longer to get into an Athlon 64 board & chip? If the former, what ultra 400 would you advise me to buy under the 100 bill range?

Thanks

If the 1700+ is a t-bred B I'd just replace the ram for now and juice whatever FSB your 8RDA+ has in it. The performance difference between say 370DDR dual channel synch mode and 400 isn't very much. You can use CPU-Z to see what chipset your board has, or pull the heatsink and look for absolute certainty, and if it's the later rev. 8RDA+ with A1/C1 200FSB should be gravy. Even the A3 should get close despite the lack of vdd adjustments in the bios. There's a volt mod for your board that's fairly simple that you can use to reach 200fsb too. If the 1700+ is a Pally or "A" then the 2500+ is a good upgrade too.

I appreciate the insight. I bought the 8RDA+ when it first vame out in Dec 02; the 1700 at the same time. I have at time ran the crucial ram at fairly aggressive settings, with stability, but have never tinkered with the cpu volatge and bus frequencies. When I get in from my work, I'll check things out per your advice.
