I hear hitting 90 or 96Hz is shocking from 60Hz

Absolutely. I transitioned from a 120hz TN to a 2560 x 1440p Korean X-star and at first I tried it at default 60hz and it was unbearable. I couldn't believe how bad it was, but not sure if I was just that used to 120hz on the TN or what. I overclocked to 96hz and it was night and day. Its nearly indiscernible to 120 to me but night and day from 60hz. I could never go back to 60hz ever.

Spoke to Karen on email from overlord Monday, she said they are comming in at end of Dec, she will be emailing everyone who has signed up for one.

This is my 1st monitor with 120hz and AH-Ips, comming off dell u2410 4 years old.
I have been looking at monitors for months ,this is the next Level up as iI see it.
no problem with Glossy for me. This baby seems to have everything I have been looking for!
for you guys that already have2700C, is this Truley a Leap from whats is out now in 27" VA IPS PLS .......

Do you know if this monitor uses (pwm) pulse width modulation dimming? I have read that many of the manufacturers who use LG and Samsung panels are now using this, though it is hit-or-miss. I have seen this before on a friend's Qnix, so I know my eyes are sensitive to this, though, admittedly, most people won't notice. It's why I get headaches in rooms that have fluorescent lighting. Typically, spec sheets don't list PWM even if the monitor uses it, and after looking at the Overlord page, it doesn't say anything about using or not using PWM. Do you know if it does?

I heard about PWM also, (non pwm is better) from another site, I don't know about this on the 2700C
I hope someone else might know this here?

Well since the Catleap and 270OC are the same panels, then there should be no PWM. I tested my Catleap and it was PWM free. Thats not to say with absolute certainty that all these panels are PWM-free.

For example, the vast majority of Qnix 2710 are PWM-free but a few do use PWM as someone mentioned above (I have a Qnix as well and it is PWM free).

Really depends on your needs. If it's twitch shooters, then Swift is probably what you want. If you need the benefits of IPS, then Overlord can have you covered and a bit cheaper.

Yeah but for $60 more I get name brand, fairly good Customer service. I've never heard of OverLord, I assume they would be good(customer Service) if they want a space in the market share.

60 dollars more? The Swift costs a lot more than that, last time I checked.

Also, Asus has absolutely terrible after sales service. If ever you need an RMA, good luck....

Overlord is basically an American SME and my personal experience with their customer service has been stellar. Can't comment on warranty claims because I've never had issues.

Bad color isn't as inherent to TN as people like to think. Some of it is due to the color shifts with angle, but most of what people complain about regarding bad color is that all cheap TN panels are 6-bit, rather than 8-bit.

I have some 8 bit Gateway TNs and got an expensive HP IPS. There is a difference there but not that much.

The panel doesn't have color shifting issues, but it does have small gamma shift issues in the corners.. all in all I would have purchased a 3rd Gateway if I had known the difference would be so small. DISCLAIMER I dont edit photos

More like $600 more are you joking? And "good customer service" doesn't really mean much. Try getting an RMA based on an arbitrary definition of backlight bleeding and we'll see what happens.

G-sync is great but it's overpriced. The fact that it's a $3-400 premium over comparable models just means I'm not that interested. It doesn't even work in borderless windowed mode which is what my group of friends has been playing on exclusively for a long time.

got a question if someone knows:

once i get mine, just starting it up pluging in my DVI, is it easy to set to 100 or 96 hz or more, make a few contrast and brightest adjustments?

Yeah pretty easy. You'll have to download CRU and a driver patch that will allow the OC to occur (at least on Nvidia cards):

To adjust contrast, gamma, colors, you can do it through the graphics driver CP. Or you can look for a color profile made by 270OC (or catleap) owners with a colorimeter.

Bad color isn't as inherent to TN as people like to think. Some of it is due to the color shifts with angle, but most of what people complain about regarding bad color is that all cheap TN panels are 6-bit, rather than 8-bit.

It's not really even that but plain abysmal color calibration from the factory. For example I think Apple's TN displays on their laptops have looked pretty good for years but even they had one Macbook model (the first unibody) that had completely shit viewing angles and overall display quality.

With a well calibrated 8-bit TN the biggest difference you will notice is sRGB gamut and the worse viewing angles compared to IPS displays.

The Overlord seems like a nice display but doesn't have the kind of response time the ASUS has (despite coming farily close with full black to white transitions) and in my experience G-Sync and ULMB are totally worth the price. It's a shame ASUS quality seems to be a complete crapshoot and I hope I never have to exchange mine as it's pretty much flawless.

Actually you are taking a known instance (taking your word for it here. I hadn't read about it prior to now.) of sending ringers out for review and then saying this is the same thing. You are accusing them of being dishonest and deceptive when we haven't had it proven yet.

No. I think he is saying that due to a lack of reputable reviews on this monitor, people should be cautious. I for one thank him for doing so as it is beneficial advice for this forum.

I actually find the EVGA pixel clock tool to be the easiest way to deal with OCing refresh rates.

Multi input + overclock? Suspicious. Very, very few of the multi input monitors have been shown to overclock. And even those were limited to 85hz. It is far more likely that this one does not in fact overclock, and skips frames when a signal>60hz is fed to it.

As for the tempest - it works. It's the "k" series of monitors. We don't complain about Intel not guaranteeing 7.2ghz overclocks, why should we be so skeptical about a much smaller company not guaranteeing 120hz overclocks? Especially if the monitor is *cheaper* than many other competing 1440p monitors. It overclocks. If there has been no user reviews, true, skepticism is the order of the day (such as the monitor above). But there are dozens of user reviews and they are generally positive.

What you should be concerned about -

Motion blur of reduced, but only by up to half, strobe lights are still better.

I have a msi 7970 lightning i want the tempest x2700C i have 2 dvi outouts on the back of my video card, some one is saying my video card will not work on tempest x2700C....that why i was looking around for another monitors.....i prefer the x2700C.....what can you recoment 27" 120hz 2560x1440 ah-ips fast responce times?
