if he's going with the z680 he will notice the difference in the AC'97 and the audigy2. personally I'd ditch both DVD rom drives and upgrade to one NEC or Lite-on burner. it would be well worth it. (saves money and gets better drive at the same time)

I take it you don't plan to OC at all, if you do I'd step the memory up to PC3500 (it says it isn't supported by the mobo, officially that's true, but check out anandtechs review, they used PC3500 for thier performance tests.

The only other thing, I really don't like the little chipset cooler MSI uses on that board, I'd personally get one of these or these.

that is the worst advice i have ever heard.

yes, sorry kamranziadar, even if you are serious, it's not good advice... a cheap case is a pain to work with, and obviously the crappy power supply if it lasts more than 2 months, can cause problems along the way.

Ok guys we are talking about Dream PC not Nightmare PC here. Dream PC should be the one which every body can afford and it performs like a Champ. It does not mean you buy all the expensive stuff available in the market and you call it a Dream PC. About the Cases i told you go and see for yourself you should be amazed how great they are with 550Watts power supplies, and lots of expandability, looks good to your eyes, and 4 Cooling fans which will keep your compenents cool as you Overclock. And about Audio also now you can get 6.1 Channel Audio on Motherboards, and i don;t think so i would buy extra Audio Card, i would put that money on good sound system. Let me know if i am wrong. :)

Oh and get a good durable keyboard so you don't end up like kamranziadar with his broken caps lock.

Regarding the memory, 3200 is the highest officially supported speed, which is why going higher is called overclocking ;)
If you're not gonna be overclocking, just get good 3200, if you plan to overclock, go for some higher speced RAM, though I still think 533 is overkill.

That is 3 strikes, and you are OUT! Horrible advise, horrible.

elandys, Your system looks great except for a few things I'd change.

For memory I'd get:

OCZ Gold Edition Rev3 (512MBx2) DDR PC-3700
OCZ EL Platinum Revision 2 (512MBx2) DDR PC-3200
or
OCZ Gold Edition Rev2 (512MBx2) DDR PC-4000
This memory has performed GREAT with the board you have selected.

For the burner, definitely ditch the Plextor and get either the
NEC 3500A or the Pioneer DVR-108. Both are GREAT drives but I lean more toward the Pioneer.

For the hard drive, get the 74GB Raptor, and if you need more storage space, get the 250GB hard drive and use it as a secondary drive.

I like your selection for the case. Nice job. ;)

you cant have an "ULTIMATE" PC without SCSI... it carries a huge price tag, but no "ultimate" pc is complete without it...

Thanks JackBurton, but are u sure that the memory that you are telling me is compatible with my board? (OCZ Gold Edition Rev2 (512MBx2) DDR PC-4000). I will go with the pioneer optical because its cheaper and it says in anandtech that is the best of the best.
Ive been reading that if you install a couple of raptors 74Gb 10.000rpm it perfoms awesome, should i do this? the thing is that i dont know how to put them in RAID 0.

THANKS GUYS :)

.D: LOL poor kamranziadar, everybody is messing with him.

You're wrong. A dream PC would be something that someone would dream of having. You're thinking of a budget PC.

are you going to OC???

People are recommending the DDR533 and higher because it gives you OC headroom, otherwise just get some crucial balistix PC3200 and be happy.

The system looks great.

first of all elandys,

don't listen to ANYTHING kamranziadar said in this thread. I love newbs that try to give out tons of advise to boost their post count:) kamranziadar, read more write less, that'[s how you learn stuff

It will be too Expensive.
thats for him to decide, and as he picked it out in the first place, i think its what he wants to spend
SATA, BECAUSE IT WILL GIVE YOU MORE DATA TRANSFER RATE.
100% wrong
take out the Sound Card you don;t need that Motherboards now come with excellent Sounds
unless he wants high quality sound, 6.1 absolutely does not equal quality sound
Why you need THERMALTAKE TSUNAMI DREAM , it is too Expensive, buy a $30-$40 case with 500Watt power supply which comes with it, on Pricewatch.com, and save more money
whatever you do don't follow this advise. the ps you have is good, though you probably don't need more than 450W. i think the tsunami is a great case, though a tad expensive. good choice

so you are the one who defines elandys's dream...the thermaltake tsunami has great cooling performance, and you can put a bunch of fans in any case

sorry for being so harsh, but it was needed

more advise...

1)i think it is safe to assume a good overclock is in store for this dream system. in that case the ocz reccomended earlier looks good.

2) if you want the comp to be higher end, get two raptors and raid 0. i'd only do this if you are comfortable with the increased risk (2x) of loosing all your data if one dies. despite all the bashing raid 0 gets, it does help performance a noticable difference, whereas the difference between a 3800 and an fx 53 is tiny in notiocable performance.

3) i'd also get a lower end video card like the x800 or 6800 gt and overclock it and spend the extra $ on a better cooler

I thought this one was worse: "SATA, BECAUSE IT WILL GIVE YOU MORE DATA TRANSFER RATE."

Theoretically higher, maybe, but not in practice and even in practice not noticably.

System looks great.

I'm building a similar system, but going with the Asus AV8 for the MB.

On the sound card versus the onboard, I heard you get better FPS if you have the sound card in there, is that correct? I only play with headphones, but still plan on buying the SB Audigy ZS.

Oh, and on the memory, the AMD FX53 only OCs a little bit. Review sites can push the numbers to the extreme when testing memory, but from reading most reviews, I see most top out at 2.6 which is only a slight overclock for the memory. So PC3200 is fine for most of us if its quality stuff.

I went with the Pioneer DVR-108 and I'm going to water cool with the Exos-AL and the CPU-300-H06 water block, both sold on Newegg.

Drop the Plextor for an NEC, that'd be a good call somebody said it on page 1...

Get rid of the Radeon and get a BFG GeForce 6800 Ultra!

It looks awesome though, good luck with it!
