I was wondering if anyone here has played this game and if so has anyone had the problems i am having. I cant play this damn game because it gets hella slow frame rates even in 640x480x8 in glide with all the settings set for speed. I have the latest version that help a little but not enough. I am using WinBlowsMe and a voodoo 5 5500. My processor is a 650 pentium3. If there is anything I can do please tell me this game would rock if not for this ploblem.

I couldn't get any games to run very well in WinME. (Others have had better luck)
I would go back to Win98 if ya still have it..

actually all of my games work pretty well with ME in fact Ultima 9 runs better in ME than it did in 98 or 98se I will soon be going backto win2k but I dont remember if it runs well or at all in win 2k. But I just want to be able to play the darn game withou having o turn everything down just so I can get 12fps. Makes no sence to me that I can get 80-100fps in half-life in 1024x768 with 32bit textures and all detail levels at max and to boot 2xfsaa. I can get about 50fps in ut and quake3 engine games. Yet I cant get sh*t in this game? Doesnot make sence. especially since it is a glide game. Heck they even sent me an updated disk that was supposed to fix this. It just doesnt make sence......must be very poor prgramming.......:(

Magikal,it was a very slow game in general if you have 256mb of ram this will help since the game eats memory for breakfast,I played the game on cel-333 & TNT with only 96mb of ram it was only just adequate at the time.

<< I am using WinBlowsMe >>

Cute. :) U9 is a dog, plain and simple. But I enjoyed it even on my old P3-415 with a Voodoo2 card. Just turn down the rendering sliders and accept 5-15 fps and you'll be fine.

I played U9 on my old PII400mhz/ TNT/ 128mb ram & it ran pretty well at 800x600. (so your 3dfx system should do WAY better)

Make sure you have the latest patch installed(which your newer cd version probably does) and have the consevative swapfile usage set in the system.ini file & I think I had cacheman settings at POWER USER.
And DO NOT choose compressed textures during the game installation.

Also, zooming greatly increases the framerates in that game, I cant quite remember how though, it was the shift key + ?some other key?

Youve got me wondering how that game will play on my current system, I might give it a try & see if it'll run at 1024x768 with everything maxed on my GeForce2.

I always wondered what it would have been like to play with all those options maxed.

i think i read that the game developers just plain gave up trying to get d3d to an acceptable state, much like the Unreal engine, the game was written for glide, but unlike the unreal engine, no amount of patching is going to be able to solve the impossible...the engine was badly broken memory usage wise. it was abeautiful game to look at as long as you dont move.

Yes it was pretty. Standing on top of a mountain with the distance rendering slider all the way out was breathtaking! Fun world to explore, too. But the bugs, lame beast AI and simpleton conversation system brought it down. Still, it was lots better than U8 which blew some of the largest monkey balls in the history of computer gaming.

and it runs like garbage. bah. i wanted this game to be good in so many ways... but i cant get into it because its so frustrating with crap framerates
