UK novice looking West for sensibly priced hardware

Hi guys,

Longtime listener, first-time caller here!

It's been 5+ years (I think, definitely a long time) since I last upgraded the core components ofmy computer and with the new round of AMD offerings sounding pretty good I've decided it's time to upgrade.

Unfortunately, I am a student in the UK and cannot afford to go crazy and buy anything outrageously priced but I figure I will be able to save a heck of a lot of money if I take advantage of the good exchange rate and buy my hardware from the greener side of the water (even after import duties, taxes, VAT, delivery and whatever else the EU decide I need to pay).

Now, having looked at all the main vendors that I can find (on the realtime price thingy) they all have policies stating that they won't ship outside the US. What I'm asking you lot is,

"Is there anywhere in the states that will ship hardware to a UK address. It doesn't need to be the cheapest one you know as it's probably still cheaper than over here."

Alternatively, if anyone in the UK is reading this and knows where I can buy stuff cheaper than ebuyer or microland I'd appreciate it.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Dave.

P.S. If you would prefer to criticise my choice of hardware,I have decided on core components...

AMD Socket 939 Athlon64 3200+ (0.9nm version, is it worth waiting for the SSE3 enabled one?)
An nforce4 motherboard supporting SLI - whatever turns out to be best value for money.
2x512 Mb DDR400 (not sure which yet, any recommendations? I was thinking maybe crucial (remember I'm on a budget!))
ATi x700 pro (may change if something newer comes out)
250Gb Hitachi Deskstar (7K250 ?)

I feel the typical cost of this is as much asI can afford so any alternatives proposed shouldn't push me to o much over budget ( ~£550).

I looked into this years ago and came to the conclusion that its not worth doing. By the time it gets to the UK after P&P has been added and then tax plus VAT the small saving if any is not worth the risk of getting broken parts and all that would mean in getting a replacement. It only works if you know someone who is going to the US and they can buy the stuff for you and bring it back without paying customs duty.

Thanks for the quick reply!

You certainly have a fair point about the returns.

You reckon even though the dollar is $1.90:£1 it is worth it? Can you remember who you looked into it with (i.e. which seller?)

Thanks, Dave.
