UK members. PCI-Ex grpahics cards

Does any of the UK members know where you can source PCI-Ex graphics cards??

I have a new machine coming tommorow and obviously it only takes PCI-Ex graphics cards.

Thing is I can't find any. Opps.

Cheers Assimilator I am getting disperate as I don't find a card soon the machine will have to stay turned off.

If I don't find one to buy tommorow I will be e-mailing OcUK and Dabs to see if they can get one.

Anyone want to guess how many WU's a dual 3.6 Ghz HT Xeon system is going to do on SETI??

You could always beg or borrow a regular PCI gfx card to use until you can source a PCI-E one. It will be slow in the UI especially in 3D tasks, but at least those CPUs would be crunching out some nice WUs in the meantime. 😉

Apple sells a Geforce 6800Ultra DDL PCIX card for $600, it might fit your system 😉😛
Those cards are the fastest available from Nvidia..

Hope it'll do alot more than 25. My current machine puts out 20 a day that has Dual 2.2Ghz 512kL2 and 400Mhz FSB.

Now that is some smart thinking. I can get some rubbish 2d PCI card for next to know money. Won't run the software very well but will allow me to code and compile on the thing (and run seti). Nice thinking matey.

Maybe it will do around 40 to 45 wu's day! A dual Xeon with HT (that's 4 cpu's! 😀) will kick some serious a$$!!!

There are lot's of Geforce 4 MX cards (even with 128MB) which are PCI for really low prices. Those cards will perform great in 2D. Don't go with less then 32 or 64MB of vid-mem..

I think it may well do 40 WU's a day I think atleast it will do 30-35. We'll have to see when I get a graphics card for it. Your right I've found half decent GEforce PCI cards for like 15 quid. It's not that long ago the software was running on a Geforce 3.

Thanks for that as you say they have some fairly decent ones in stock. Infact I'm temped to just buy one of these for the time being. There only a hundred quid. It's a step down from my 5900 Ultra but it'll do. It is a hundred quid wasted though if 6800 PCIx cards are just around the corner it's not like I can then put it in any other machine in the office.

If I do, do it that way I may not be the first kid on the block with a PCI-x Graphics card but I'm sure to be the first one with a PCI-x card going spare. ;-)

Just out of interest if any American members see a 6800 Ultra with PCI-x in stock on some online store. Stick a link on here it can't cost that much to ship from America. Plus I seem to be in San-Fran alot these days as well.


Can I just say San Fran rocks. I'd never been to the west coast before having spent most of the time that I've spent in the USA in New York. It's like a whole different country and I love it.
