UK, looking for cheapest 15" 1080p laptop

My sister's off to uni next month, and I'm looking for a laptop for her.

I'm refusing to let her go off with a machine with a 1366x768 screen, but I'm having trouble finding a suitable high-resolution laptop which doesn't cost megabucks.

Does anyone know of any 15" laptops on sale which have a larger resolution?

Thanks,
Tom

I thought the same, so I bought an Asus NS55 for £700, it has a nice 1600x900 screen. But the keyboard was a disgrace. So I got an Acer 5755G, guess what...1366x768 but the keyboard is nice. You can literally drive yourself nuts trying to get what you want in a laptop, and the reviews are sometimes misleading.

I'm oretty sure Dell do that res as an option, but try and buy via a vendor as dealing with Dell UK (well they are in India, but you know what I mean) can be very frustrating.

mmm, thanks for the advice. I think one of the things driving up the laptops with nice screens is that they come with overspecced hardware in every other department. My sister really doesn't need 8gb ram, or an i5 processor (all modern processors are lightningspeed) or big discrete graphics.

It's all a bit of a pain 🙁

I would suggest the Vaio SE if you're in a hurry, but they'll be replaced with a new line in the near future. Do consider adding an SSD, though.

I recently purchased an HP dv6z-7000 with the 1920x1080 screen upgrade. When I bought it, I was expecting to get a mediocre TN panelm much to my surprise it is an IPS or PLS, or something display with 178/178 viewing angles. There is no visible distortion vhile viewing the screen at obtuse angles, only some brightness loss. I couldn't be happier.

You can config one out for ~800 with the screen upgrade if you go with an AMD processor (as I did).

If your sister is just going to use it for school and not do any gaming is to purchase a laptop with a 2nd gen cpu i5-2450M as the price go for around $700. Or if you are looking for something even cheaper you can go with a 14 inch screen with a pentium B970 cpu.

What ever you get her just make sure they do have a repair center in that region just in case anything goes wrong.
