Kids can start doing martial arts earlier than the age of eight. I don't see the problem as long as the necessary precautions are taken.

Says no punching, elbowing etc. I.e., looks wrestling in a cage atmosphere. I think it's the aspect of the cage that makes this sound more dramatic than is likely is.

However, I don't agree with no headgear. Nor do I think kids should be doing full-out submissions on each other, too much risk of joint/tendon injury IMO.

Ironically, head injuries in boxing didn't exist until they started wearing protective gear. When it was bare knuckle, a bunch to the head would break your hand. With gloves, you can pound the shit out of that brain and you hand won't break. Same thing happened in football with helmets. Head injuries were not really a problem when they wore crappy head protection; people would try to avoid hitting their head because it was painful. Now that helmets eliminate all pain, people smash head to head and it causes permanent brain damage. It's a well studied problem.

Yeah it's funny listening to MMA fans talk about how much harder MMA guys must get hit cause of the small gloves, yet every test has shown there is similar PSI with a 10oz boxing glove. Same PSI, larger surface area, lols.

I was thinking of cauliflower ears that wrestlers get without headgear.

Probably right, it's hard to picture the kids in the ring there without bleeding lips and busted joints.
