Uiversity Leaders Declare Student Insane

http://www.theregister.com/200...11/gun_rights_uni_row/

This university sent students all letters about the killings at their university. So one young man responds saying if he they allowed concealed carry maybe more people would be alive today. So they tell him he has to seek mental health counseling before he can come back to school.

We dont allow no freedom of speech at our school. You are obviously not thinking in line with our liberal agenda.

So they take a reasonable statement from a guy who probably likes guns and gives him a reason to get very angry and hate something. Hmm...

That's retarded on many levels.

(Plus, why should he go straight to conseling? If they were even gonna attempt to do this correctly, he should be asked to have an evaluation. Only after an evaluation can it be determined if a person needs the counseling etc.)

But I suppose since I've actuall had a CC permit I'm insane and unqualified to speak on the matter.

Fern

It clearly must be insane to believe that anyone other than the criminals should be packing.

Now I?m not comfortable with everyone carrying and shooting it out to settle arguments, but clearly there is a lot of room between that and no one having anything to defend themselves or others with.

When there are no shepherds to the flock, you?re asking for losses.

Boy, that guy "let it all hang out" didn't he? He's obviously carrying around a great deal of resentment but I don't see it as reason for expulsion. Now, the fact that he was asked to meet with staff members regarding his email and he refused would seem a cause for alarm. But, the article says that his lawyers are refuting that this "invitation" was ever made.

I would say however that him having a firearm is a little disconcerting. I'm pretty pro-gun, but this guy seems awful unstable to be carrying a firearm. But a lot of people would say the same about me so who am I to say?

I was wondering why a swastika painted by some frustrated ladies in their bathroom turned somehow into red flags of a hate crime but you dont consider an asian guy admittedly killing people because he hated them not hate motivated... Anyhow, in response to your most recent email concerning a vigil for people most likely nobody in the school knows; I would like to comment on your claims of upped ?security?. I attend a MPLS cohort so I dont see any security in the area ever. Infact it seems the dirty bums on the street are the only ones patrolling anything. I would suggest if you are truley concerned about student security, you lift a ridiculous conceal carry campus ban and let the students worry about their own ?security?. VA Tech just recently passed their conceal carry permit ban; we can all see how well that worked for criminal minds. Ironically, many students from VA Tech are in online forums which I can direct you to complaining that 32 people wouldnt have died in the students rights were not infringed by
banning their legal right to carry their arms on their person. They take the argument that they would have shot the guy before he was able to massacre that many people; I on the other hand would argue that the guy wouldnt have even attempted this atrocity not only if we didnt pay for everybody and their mother to come here for free to soak up tuition funds but also that by knowing law abiding citizens carried weapons to defend themselves that criminals wouldnt be so bold to commit crimes against them...

As usual, Im sure this plea of common sense will fall on deaf ears as I recently responded to a general email notifying students of the conceal carry ban...

On a lighter note... For a ?Christian? university, I am very disappointed in Hamline. With the motif of the curriculum, the atheist professors, jewish and other non-Christian staff, I would charge the school with wanton misrepresentation.

Yes, I obviously feel that Hamline has been a serious let down, so far I am almost finished with half of my MAPA degree and havent even cracked a book. All the books that came in plastic wrap are still in plastic wrap despite the ridiculous amounts students are charged. I have yet to hear a student in my cohort that is happy with the curriculum or quality of professors. Why does this school charge so much for such a substandard education?

Furthermore, why are you diversity initiatives anti-Euro American (ie white folks)? All over the university grounds I see loads of leftist propaganda, why not warn a student before they enroll at Hamline? It took me complaining to a few different people before even the hamline website finally included white people in the random pictures on the main page. If I remember corrextly it was like 1 white in a picture out of like 12... Now it is obviously better but just goes to show how biased this university is and the painstaking efforts of diversity pandering it does at the expense of people that are actually planning on contributing back to the TAXPAYERS that are footing the bill for your iversity initiatives. In fact, 3 out of 3 students just in my class that are ?minorities? are planning on returning to Africa and all 3 are getting a free education ON MY DOLLAR. I bet the staff here is wondering how a swastika ended up in a bathroom... More people than you can imagine are tired of this all. It?s just sad that they resort to petty vandalism rather than speak their mind like I am.

Please stop alienating the students that are working hard every day to pay for their tuition. Maybe you can instruct your staff on sensitivity training towards us ?privilaged white folk?. If your staff is going to continually berate the evil white male for this privilage and his racist tendencies, at least have them explain where to find the privilages and point out the evil people that are ruining the world. Strange for how horribly racist Europeans and other white people are that everyone seems to want to exploit our generosity. Maybe someday the favor will be returned but I doubt it seeing what I have so far...

Thanks for your time...
Respectfully,
Troy Scheffler

Almost sounds like he is ready to be a school shooter himself.

You beat me to posting this.
This is a troubled kid. And I think the school acted correctly.
And piasabird's thread title: Uiversity Leaders Declare Student Insane is trolling of the worst sort since the school did NOTHING of the kind.

So someone writes back a crazy racist hate filled email about how whitey is getting held down and you somehow jump to the conclusion that it MUST be his views on concealed carry that prompted this review? I saw nothing to that effect in the article. Did you even read it?

Argue all you want that its his right to be as stupid as he wants in regard to whitey getting held down, but how about the smallest shred of evidence that his view on gun control was what prompted this evaluation before all the right wing people start foaming?

Where is it racist, hate-filled? Or is it because he is white that it must be racist?

Do you not understand that anybody who doesn't support ethnic diversity incentives is racist? Jeez.

It seems that way. His email could have been better written and more thought out so he didn't come across as a nutcase. He makes a few good points.

The guy was obviously pissed off when he wrote it and the more he wrote, the more pissed he probably got. He definitely has some issues he needs to deal with, but suspending him for his views was a little over the top. I would not give the guy a permit to carry a concealed weapon however and might even endorse checking him at the door for such.

I guess he wasn't so much explicitly racist as he was an apologist for people putting up swastikas and a myopic view of foreign students. I'll give you it was more just childish and ignorant then racist. Regardless, as to the substance of my post, his email was pretty unhinged... and not because of his view on firearms as the OP is trying to suggest without evidence.

I would agree with you for the most part, but I think his firearms views were certainly part of the reason. But, as you stated, reading his email gives one pause beyond his firearms views.

Full timeline of this nutcase here: http://www.thefire.org/index.php/article/8475.html

This isn't about C&C.

This guy has the right to be as nutty as he wants, but if he sends emails the day after the VA Tech shooting, in response to a school's offer of counseling for students, talking about how the white man is kept down, merely the blatant insensivity itself is cause for, if not quite concern, then some lesser recognition.

Excerpts of his email: http://www.thefire.org/index.php/article/8470.html

"Considering that accoriding to the university president that there were recently serious ?hate crimes? that were committed in the womens bathrooms; there may be people on the edge ready to snap. I cant say I blame them, I myself am tired of having to pay my own extremely overpriced tuition to make up for minorities not paying theirs. On top of that, I am sick of seeing them held to a different standard than the white students (Of course its a lower and more lenient standard)."

So he allies himself with the swastica vandals and rants about minorities. I changed my mind, this kid needs watching.

I don't know if ordering him to counseling will help anything, as he's pretty clearly an angry white christian who feels there's a war on his demographic.

I don't know if the school has commented yet, but somehow I doubt they ordered the counseling based on his C&C advocacy. It's the points I mention above that I find more disturbing.

Yeah, is this REALLY the kind of guy piasabird wants to hold up as a model for concealed carry permits?

That was exactly what came to my mind 😛

I wouldn't want this guy carrying a gun around me, and if I had the power to request a psych evaluation for him, i'd do it. i guess the school administrators feel the same way.

 Yeah, he must be troubled because he emailed a rant that didn't fit the liberal's world view.

You liberals are hilarious - always whining about free speech and such but are the first to remove those that don't just nod their head and lap up your liberal spew.

You, and others, continue to misrepresent liberal criticism of certain speech as an attack on the first amendment. Find me where someone here said he doesn't have the constitutional right to say the things he said? You can't, because no one did. He has the right to say whatever crazy thing he wants, but to argue that free speech should carry no consequence is naive. A bar owner in Texas can legally burn a flag in protest, but he shouldn't be surprised if people stop visiting his place of business because they disagree with his form of protest. He has the right to free expression, not the right to prevent reaction to it.

The kid here can say whatever he wants, but if the day after a mass shooting he expresses 1) sympathy with similar people who are "about to snap", 2) recommends more guns on campus, 2) rants about minorities and the privileges they unfairly get at his "so-called Christian university, then the school would be negligent, especially in the post-VA Tech climate, to ignore him.

I don't think a psych eval was the right move, I don't think it will help anyone, but stop with the BS about how lefties are against free speech. As I've pointed out in other threads, its the righties who 1) ban or burn books they don't like (you know, Harry Potter teaches witchcraft?) 2) call for laws that punish attacks on religion, 3) call for amendments to ban flag burning, 4) and the ACLU is the leftyist organization anywhere and they spend most of their time defending free speech rights of everyone from nazis (right) to Ward Churchill (LEFT).

Only liberal minded left-leaning speech is free. Some people are tired of constantly being reminded how they are white and must help out everyone else with their stupid pity party. Instead why not tell and teach people to pull themselves up with their own boot straps. I see so much liberal garbage it makes me want to puke. I never discriminated against anyone, I dont hate anyone, and I just want to be treated as an equal under the law.

Don't blame the liberals, you guys came up with this one on your own. White man's burden anyone?

How many people did the whites kill and enslave to get power in America?

If this guy is insane, 98% of P&N should be locked up. I see more hate filled bigotry in an hour on this msgboard than I do in this letter.
