Yes...
Just read an article about hybrid cars in yesterday's Detroit Free Press...
Also it seems that those Prius's sell for a pretty penny over MSRP...

The Prius is smaller than the Camry, so I'm sure it's not based on it's platform. From my understanding, the Prius doesn't handle or accelerate well at all - I'd rather get a 4-cylinder Camry or Corolla and not pay all that dealer markup.

Well, the manufacturer still has to have a way to get the product to the customers and right now that's through dealerships.

Don't worry, when the day comes that we can place an order with the manufacturer directly and bypass the hassle of scam artist dealerships the manufacturer will counteract any cost benefits. If the consumer is saving money by purchasing directly then the manufacturer will just raise the cost to make up the difference. They'll squeeze that money out of you one way or another.
