from the IMDB Celeb news this past week:

Original Vader Aims To Return

Despite arthritis, crutches and one useless arm, the man who played the original Darth Vader is determined to make his mark on the final Star Wars film. Life-long body builder David Prowse, 66, donned the famous black helmet for George Lucas' first three episodes, and is eager to return for the historic final installment, which begins shooting next year. He says, "I still definitely want the part again. I'm going to have an operation on my hip in September and then I'm planning to go back to the gym. I should be fit and ready by next year. I have such a large following that if George Lucas offered the part to someone else, I'm sure fans would boycott the film." And Prowse is convinced he is in with a chance. Hayden Christensen, who plays Darth's Jedi alter ego Anakin Skywalker, is nearly one foot shorter than Prowse was as Vader.

They must be giving him some whacky-weed prescription for that hip problem of his. Pal. if Lucas can turn muppets into kung-fu fighters, then he can CGI someone to be your height.

If he can do it I think it would be pretty cool.

I guess we'll see what kind of shape he's in by then.

If he, with his weak heart, hip, etc. can manage to get into enough shape to do some decent fighting and looking good as Vader...then I think it'd be cool. Stupid Hayden Christianson(Don't get me wrong, I think he was good as Anakin) is PESTERING the hell out of Lucas to let him get into the Vader costume...I think he can go to hell, and I hope that's what Lucas eventually tells him.

Interesting....I think it'd be nice to give the guy a shot, but it'll all depend on if he's in as-perfect-as-possible shape. Thanks for the post tho. :)

it'd suck to see vader become in worse shape the younger he gets rather than better shape.

It really doesn't matter who wears the suit, really. James Earl Jones is doing the voice; they just need an actor who is tall.

Ian McDiarmid was born in 1947. That means he's 55, not "like 70".

Well this must mean that we'll actually get to see Vader in full costume again. I didn't really think we'd get to. I figured we'd see an accident and the twins would be sent off and that'd be the end of the movie. Apparently not.... COOL :)

Christopher "Count Dooku" Lee, on the other hand, is 80.

IMDB

I know his scenes for LotR are already shot because they did all that at once, but he'll be 83 when Ep III comes out. Lively old guy.

imagine how much their insurance would cost if they tried to put this old fart in the suit and film it. That alone will prevent it from happening. However, if he did happen to do it, would'nt anyone wonder why Vader is limping and has a big gut that he didn't have in Star Wars.

Fearsome, he did 7 movies in 2001... (Not counting the making of the other 2 LOTR movies, that would bring it to 9)
243 Movies in total. Acting can be a fulltime job indeed.

"Ok, in this scene vader hobbles over to the Jedi Knights and then drops his saber due to arthitist"

Script:
Yoda: The Force is blah, blah, blaaaaah.
Vader: Wheres my bedpan?

Agreed. While I doubt it'd happen, it'd be a nice touch to the film to have him in, even if we don't seem his face etc. :)

I have never heard of him before (Prowse). What makes him think that anyone would boycott the film because Lucas wouldn't hire some gimp to play Vader?

Or, the total could represent spending one year in Hong Kong making action flicks
or, one year in LA making p0rn films

Exactly what I was going to say. It is the voice that makes that character not the "acting".

So long as that sniviling, pathetic, little turd, Hayden Christianson, doesn't get the role, and James Ear does the voice, I couldn't care less.
