Actually, it doesn't itch very much at all. If it gets bad, I'll pound down the Nyquil.

How old are you? Chicken Pox in adults is MUCH more serious than if you ahd it as a child. You'll definately want to see your doctor so he can monitor you. I had it at about 22 (damm coworker brought one of his kids in while sick), almost died from it (didn't sleep for 4 days, so quite dillusional (atleast thats what my wife tells me, I don't remember) and then had a nice alergic reaction to some sleeping pills they gave me).

Good luck.
Bill

wouldn't adult chicken pox manifest itsef as shingles?

Shingles and chicken pox are caused by the same virus. When one has had chicken pox, one does not get shingles unless the immunity has slipped to a low level with the passing years and one is re-exposed to the virus. (copied)

Plus with shingles, it's very definitely on one side of the body, not a diffuse rash. I've seen some folks with exactly 1/2 of their face affected by shingles, looks strange.

Sorry to hear that. I got the pox when I was a sophomore in college--worst illness ever that I could recall. Take Benadryl--I don't know if it helps with the itching, but it sure made me sleep thru it.

The itching doesn't hit until late in the game. I thought I had it easy too, until one night... it hit. And it hit BAD.

I'm telling you RIGHT NOW: Get some Aveeno oatmeal bath and have it ready. All the dope in the world will NOT save you from this itching short of a massive OD on pain killers.

I got the chicken pox when I was 31. Sucked BAD. :| My 10yo (at the time) son got it at the same time. He got like 5 dots, barely itched. I was covered head to toe. Even on my scalp. <shudder>

At least this proves it didn't make me sterile. :p

If it's the mailman's, he's shooting some bizarre DNA since he's black. :p

My dad got CP for the second time when he was around 41 or 42. He was sick for 2 weeks.

I hope I don't get them again.

They normally put folks over 12 on antiviral drugs.
You can die or be maimed as an adult with chicken pox.

Heh, dad's gonna pick some up at the 24-hour Walmart when he gets off the 16-hour shift (Walmart is very pleasant between midnight and 6AM)

He's got my van, so I can't go do it myself (Wish I could, all those Walmart stockboys running away would be hillarious)

AVEENO OATMEAL BATH!!!! That will save your life when the itching gets unbearable. But you have to stay in the bath for longer than the 15 minutes the Aveeno stuff says to. About an hour does it.

I had chicken pox at 27. it was bad! i was thinking about suicide just to escape the pain and itching.

I had it pretty bad. I had a really bad headache that the doctor was afraid he would have to do a spinal tap. I guess in adults you can get other things.(no i have no idea what it was. heck i don't even remember much from that week!)

My wife was really afraid that i would be impotent after that. i had a fever of 103+ for 3 days straight.

i feel for anyone that gets it. It was the worse week of my life.

Why you did not call you doctor's office and tell the nurse you had chicken pox escapes me.
They would have called in a script for Acyclovir and you would have forgone the misery you are about to face in the comming days.

I loved chicken pox. That sucker itched like a mother. But I had my good ole Boys Scout knife around. Simultaneous pain and pleasure, there's nothing like it.
