Hey guys, I've got an Asus A7N8X-X mobo (Here's a linky) MAH MOBO! I've got a DIMM installed now in the lone slot (the one by itself) My manual says that in order, from left to right, they're DIMMs 1,2,3. I'm getting an identical stick of RAM, and want to run dual channel, WHERE DO THEY GO!? My manual says nothing about placement

put it in the first and third one.

another way to run dual channel is to put it in banks 2 & 3. however if you're too lazy to read the labels, you might accidently put it in banks 1 & 2 and dual channel does not run in those modes.

OK, so I leave the stick ive got in DIMM 3 there, and when I get the new stick, add it into DIMM 1?

Hehe... it's a trick question, because the A7N8X-X is a single-channel board. :)

Any slots will be fine. As you know, dual-channel doesn't do much for a gaming rig with an add-in video card anyway, the glass is already like 97% full with just one memory controller going. So don't worry, be happy :)

Now answer me this (all knowing guide :)) If I shut down my comp, unplug everything, and i'm inside the case. I take out the RAM from DIMM 3, and then put it into DIMM 1, and then fill up DIMM 2 with the RAM i'll be getting, will the system boot up normally? Or do I need to reset something because I took RAM out and re-arranged it?

It ought to work without any fuss even if you move the RAM around :) (famous last words :D)

If it's any comfort, I had already opened the A7N8X-X manual myself and scrolled down to the memory section before I remembered that it was the single-channel variant, either

It has some wonderful placebo effects on some users. :D

LMAO!

You seriously know everything don't you!

Yeah, & honestly, Sneaky, don't be too bothered. Dual channel is important in a P4 w/ HT, but hardly worth bothering with in an AMD setup.

Have fun with UT2K4 now ;)

An arsenel of over 600MB of motherboard manuals definitely helps make it appear that way... on a good day :D
