Good call ElFenix. That's what I thought of as well.

What I learned in art class is that art buffs think EVERYTHING is art. If you took a picture of your vomit, it'd be art.

I like it. It's dark and a bit sadistic, but it's saying something that's hard to ignore. That's art.

looks more like art than the air-filled trash bags, cans of feces, and pile of fortune cookies.

Yep - I hate that. In a sense, it can be true, but there's no reason a dumb everyday thing sitting on a pedestal is "art" and needs to be sold to some other idiot for thousands of dollars.

Art is whatever you make of it. It's just expression. Yes, people go too far and call "everything" art. But, don't be too quick to dismiss something just because it doesn't speak to YOU.

The point of it is to get your attention enough to go on a computer forum and ask "Uhh...what is the point of this 'art'?

Looking through more of the site there are certainly some intriguing works. It's the 'Blood' collection that really freaks me out. Some disturbed thoughts behind some of that stuff.

So if there is a disturbed image behind an image, you're less likely to think it's art?

As an "artist" (I use air quotations because I'm hestitant to call ANYTHING I've made art, but some people would think I'm an idiot for thinking that), I find it repulsive how some things are labelled art. But by the epistimological definition, art is anything that expresses an emotion, conveys a feeling, or invokes a response from the viewer - Which means that, really, technically anything CAN be art.

However, I prefer to go by the more specific definitions of art.

Even by those definitions, those "freaky" works you linked to are definitely art. And I think it's art, for what it's worth. I think there is a beauty hidden behind the morbidity of those images.

Well, there is no doubt it's art.

Sure as hell isn't any art I'd want to have though. :Q

That person has got to have some issues.....

I think stuff like this is so cheesy. I appreciate good art, but this is some guy (or gal :)) thinking that it's cool to be as sadistic and gory as possible. I highly doubt there is any sort of inner truth or meaning to these pictures, just someone saying, "Wow, I will be uber 1337 if I paint some bleeding pictures." I can just picture a bunch of people at Hot Topic going ape sh!t over it though. I just think it is extremely cheesy, that's all. :)

Wow....Freud would have had a field day with this one. Is it bad that I chuckled at the painting of Lincolns dismembered head on the little girl's bed?
I mean...c'mon it's just so random that it's funny right?

Because after all, if artwork cannot be universally appreciated for the time and effort, not to mention the creativity and passion, that went into its creation, then what good is it?

That's it, I'm starting the Art Industry Association of America (AIAA).

Our job will be to find artists who are easy to be mass marketed and we'll shove them down the nation's throat, all the while the rest of the artists will find themselves unable to make a living off their works unless they cave to our demands and sign aggregious contracts ensuring our ownership of all copyrights to the material.

Or........not.

Philistine. :p

Lincoln's head on the bed was my favorite too.

I'm sure it has some deep philosophical meaning to the artist, but to me.. I think.. WTF? I kinda like the stuff however. The stigmata one was weird and interesting. Weird and interesting are my favorite types of art. :)

If ya like that stuff, check out some of Dali's work. Dali's work is part insane, part sensical, and totally beautiful.

Actually, I rather like Rockwell. I think any critic who flames his work as being too "commercial" fails to realize how beautiful some of his works are.

I'm the kind of guy that thinks that there isn't a line between commercial art and "personal" art. It's all art.
