I have a Athlon XP 1600 with a Soyo Motherboard. My computer locked up the other day. I shut it down and attempted to reboot and got a Post error. Tried to reboot again and now I don't get video or anything. No beeps. I removed everything and reseated the memory and cpu. Disconnected all other hardware. Still no video or beeps. Swapped power supply. Still nothing. Swapped video card... still nothing. Narrowed problem to either the CPU or motherboard. What do you think?

Seriously? I had a some dust in my case and it was running hot. I was told that combination can short out the motherboard. So if I need to replace the motherboard and/or the cpu, what should I upgrade to?

I just had to upgrade my sister in law's computer because the cpu heatsink was clogged with dust. That caused the caps around the cpu to go bad. There were like a dozen caps around the slot all but 2 had a yellow dot on the top of it. I was able to use the cpu on another board. Sounds to me like your cpu might be alright.

10 to 1 says mobo's fried... in my experience i've been able to save the processor but the mobo was done for, i would say replace the motherboard.
As always, Good Luck.

Before you rush out and buy a bunch of expensive hardware, try replacing the BIOS battery on the motherboard.
They are less than 5 bux, and if it doesn't fix the problem you'll have a spare for next time.
