I have an ipod and I'm happy with it. Screw the haters 😛. iTunes is buggy? Winamp has sh!t sounding output and tons of people use that. I've never had iTunes crash and I've been using it since it was released for the PC, even when I wasn't using an ipod I used iTunes.

I don't use it much now, only really for external mp3 storage, but it really is a well built piece of hardware 🙂. Firmware upgrade fixed some bad sounding output that I had when I first got it.

Actually, Winamp & itunes should have no difference in sound quality. Properly configured and with the right sound card though, foobar can sound better than either. Consider yourself lucky if you've had no problems with itunes' stability - most have, especially those with large collections.

It seems like you like itunes. I say get something that works with itunes. So many people discount the importance of the software, but if you are going to be transfering music between it frequently, bad software will ruin your experience quite quickly, as Sony's bloated software turned pissed me off with the Minidisc when it came to changing songs. I think I got it working only less than a dozen times, transfered all my music to discs, and never bothered with it again...all becuase of the software. The Minidisc player was absolutely excellent for the $89 I paid for it, but the software was the same for their entire model line, and it was horrible.

As I tell people, find the software that works best for you, and then see what player is available for you....

Sort of like buyign a PC or a MAC based on the applications you like and or require.

I have a 50GB library and have had no problems. I do however accept that there are people out ther with problems, but one msut also accept that there are also many out there that haven't experienced as much as a single hiccup.

get a iriver 1xx or if u want color a iriver 3xx

I'm all for the iriver as well. The H320 has many more features than the equivlent storage capicity ipod and it's cheaper.. I don't see the downside.

IIRC there is a plugin for winamp that makes the sound quality a lot better, but out of the box it was pretty bad. I'm not positive this occurs with winamp 5, but it used to be evident if you played a song in winamp and then played it in media player there was a difference.

I have about 15gb worth of songs, I don't know if that qualifies for a large collection or not but I'm not going to consider myself lucky because to be honest most everyone I know who uses iTunes has had no problems with it (outside of the reorganization of your music, if you let it do that). I'm sure there are some who have had problems though, but I've had good results on 3 machines here. Friends have also had good results with iTunes. The only thing I don't like is the slow (5 seconds) start time (because it has to detect the ipod).

I actually installed doom3 to my iPod once by accident and wondered why the load times were kinda long 😛

I'm not going to argue with you about foobar, it seems to be good software. I have a couple cd's of .wav songs on my iPod since it can't really do true lossless; overall I've been happy. 🙂
