This is gonna be fun... Got a brand spankin new 530i as a rental while the 745 is in for maintainence. Time to go see what this sucker can do!

haha, no videos...maybe some pics. I'm not gonna be too hard on the thing, it is still within the break-in period!!

What's funny is you are exciting about getting a lesser car for a rental. (I am assuming the 5 series is cheaper, slower, and overall not as cool as the 7 series).

Well, I don't know how many dealerships keep a spare $80,000 car laying around for a loaner. 😛

It's not like he got a Sunfire or a Metro for a loaner.

Most german dealerships give you a car of equals or greater value.

Well, I'm sure many of them try, but get real. A dealer can only extend itself so far. If a guy roles up in a $120,000 M8 Roadster he *IS NOT* going to get a loaner of equal value. Just isn't going to happen in 99% of dealerships.

I would guess the same thing for the higher end 7 series. They just don't keep many $80,000+ cars laying around

3 or 5 series sure, those are for the most part a dime a dozen and a very large part of all cars sold. No biggie. 7 series is a bit more rare.

I'm sure most Audi dealers will loan out an A4 or a A6 to A8 owners. Same thing with Mercedes. If somebody comes in with an SL500 I doubt he'll get the same thing for a loaner.

The mercedes dealer I got my car from told me that they keep a high end cars just for that purpose. Provided, they'll only keep one high end car and you'll need to schedule ahead to ensure a proper loaner. From what I understood Mercedes pays them for that by paying off the difference when they sell that car as used. Either way, 530i is nothing to complain about - I've driven one, and it's a sweet car.

i like the new 530i. the new styling of the 5 series may be debated over, but the performance and hadling capabilities cannot be denied.

I like that policy. I got to drive a 2003 Boxster S for a week once while they were working on my car (only a $300 service, but most of the time was waiting for parts). Hehe...sometimes wish that car broke down more often.

Not as excited about the 530 as I am at having a car to...erm...have fun with. I can work it a little harder than I would our own vehicles. But it definitely isn't as cool as the 7, soo many features are missing and the iDrive is like a crappy version.

Oh well, it's fun to try out something new every once in a while.

I'm -sure- you mean't Z8 roadster (unless you know something I don't!) 😉

But yeah, you're correct...there's a certain point where they aren't going to rent out expensive cars.
