Ok, I need to transfer large files from one PC to the next. One runs Win 98 and the other runs Win XP. I bought a Belkin USB 2 PCI adapter and a Lacie 60 GB USB 2 HD from Dell for ~$200. I thought all would be fine until I saw on Lacie's site it said not to plug it into a card, but it should be connected directly. Wil it still work on my Belkin card or do I need to cancel my order?

Has anyone else been getting really frustrated at computers lately. Maybe I'm just an idiot. I need some stress relief.

Yeah dude wtf, slap a nic in each one and let the party begin.

Approx. Cost:
$14.95 for second nic card (assuming you already have one )
$10.00 for 25 foot cat5 (sorry, not sure how far the computers are apart.)

24.95 total. And NIC can be used for a lifetime, as with the cat5.

Maybe your friends have a spare nic and some cat5 laying around.

that makes it all free ;)

I still think the easiest way is to set the harddrive that needs the files to slave via the onboard jumpers, and put it on the primary channel with the drive in the first computer and send the files that way. Easiest, cheapest, and fastest hands down.

I would set up a network, but i need this to transfer files to other computers as well. I would also just put it as slave on there but I need to use it over and over (once a day maybe) so that wouldn't work. I think I am going to try and save money and just change my order to a regular usb drive with no usb 2 card, but I can't find any way to change on dell. Does anyone know how to change an order without having to call customer service?
