Uh Oh, demonstrator killed in Italian protests

Reports are conflicting but apparently the demonstrator threw a fire extinguisher at a police vehicle which responded by shooting the demonstrator in the head and running him over. Looks like the protests are really starting to turn nasty. MSNBC Article.

I think all the police should just open fire. Those people have no right to burn people cars, business and such and endanger peoples lives. I consider it a rebelion not a protest.

CBC Article. <-- Please note there are disturbing photos in this link and the first one I posted...so don't read if you're easily affected by disturbing images. Looks like he certainly had a fire extinguisher and he was shot in the head from the photo on the CBC website.

Maybe I am being insensitive - I respect those people's rights to protest from now until the end of time...but as soon as you start getting violent and throwing sh*t at the police you have to expect to be dealt with swiftly. For all the cops knew (assuming the story is as it appears) that cannister could have had anything in it (explosives, acid, etc.) and they dealt with this guy in a crisis situation swiftly and finally.

I am sick of these bastards rioting and destroying every city they hold protests. They move from being noble activists to choatic terrorists...

Peaceful, nonviolent protests are the key. The problem is when people get in a mob they think they're physically unstoppable.

These "protestors" (if they're really even protesting and not just troublemakers) have sent letter bombs to the local police, attacked (successfully) paramilitary vehicles, and injured 31 police (1 critically). They're slowly but surely escalating the magnitude of response required of the police in order to keep the venues for these political talks from becoming completely chaotic. I'm afraid this probably isn't the last of the people who will be killed in the clashes.

Hmm...the protestors are stocking up on lemon juice, fire extinguishers, and rocks. The police are stocking up on AK-47's, billy clubs, tear gas, razor wire, and military vehicles. Sounds like a fair fight to me 🙁

Couldn't agree more. I've experienced first hand such an escalation of a protest. In the beginning it was all peaceful and nice, but after a while it seemed like they imagined that they were invincible. They started throwing eggs and bricks at the ME (riot squad) and many windows were thrown in.

Still, it should be possible to keep things a bit more peaceful.

Maybe we should look at the reasons people are protesting this event. If we abolish all protests peaceful or not, how would the world change?

Edited, to remove link. too many pop-up ads at the site.

why was the demonstrator stupid enough to throw anything?

my god, the police will just open fire, PERIOD. i am suprised no other protestors were killed.

the violent ones aren't the real protestors. hitting a cop with a brick isn't going to change anything. the violent ones are there to start up the mob and try to destroy things. they aren't much better than terrorists.
