<< In another area, heavily Republican Duval County, election officials disclosed that about 26,000 ballots were disqualified and never counted on Tuesday because they were marked for more than one presidential candidate, or none at all. >>

Okay, here's a quiz. How many of you Bore apologists who insist that a re-vote is necessary on your boy's home turf because 19,000 ballots were disqualified based on the SAME criteria, think the same should be done in this case.

Come on, stand up and be counted.

Makes me wonder how many ballots were discarded nationwide. I'd be very interested to see a state by state breakdown of discards.

Napalm381,

Millions every election cycle. That's why the idea of a re-vote is so ludicrous.

From W. Post

"Mike Langton, chairman of the northeast Florida Gore campaign, reacted angrily to news of the 26,000 nullified votes. He said he had learned of them too late to ask for a manual recount, which under Florida law must be requested within 72 hours of the election.

He said Duval County Supervisor of Elections John Stafford Stafford had told him only 200 to 300 votes were nullified. Stafford spokesperson Johnson said Langton had misunderstood what Stafford had said.

"I sure as hell would have requested a manual recount if I had known 27,000 votes were nullified," Langton said. "We were harmed because we didn't find out in time to ask for a recount."

"He (Stafford) was either incompetent or he was purposely misleading," Langton said.

Looks like the Gore campaign would happily have all votes correctly counted.
As opposed to Bush.

You actually believe Langton's public statements? Good one. How much you want to bet that Stafford is a democrat?

BTW, we're not talking about a recount, we're talking about a re-vote. It's a completely different issue.

There was a report on one of the national TV news channels yesterday that Cook Co, Illinois, Chicago, discarded 120,000 ballots.

In a news conference today, held by a Florida county ( I don't know which county ) election official, of some type, data was presented that showed that punch card ballots have a discard ratio of about 3.6%.. He did not say where the data came from..

Precisely. Gee, I wonder why the media doesn't latch on to the fact that the number of ballots discarded in IA, WI, or NM was almost certainly greater than the margin of victory in that state. </heavy sarcasm>

Napalm381,

Expecting the media to downplay a story like this is like expecting aliens to return to earth and beam you back home. I've waited decades and it hasn't happened (you guess which part of first sentence I'm referring to).

Russ:

I think there should be a manual recount of the entire state. Unfortunately, the Republicans waited too long to request a manual count and now they can't get one. (This per one of the talking heads on the tube for boobies, which I've been watching altogether too much lately.) Anyone know if this is actually true? If so, it doesn't bode well for the Republicans.

You heard right. That is why Bush ran to have the Federal government intervene in hopes of overturning florida state law on constituional grounds of(get this) violation of the 1st and 14th amendments.

Monday will be very interseting. And I will be on my way to Comdex when the news breaks. That sucks. This is fun!

chess9,

Again, I'm not talking about a "recount". I'm talking about a "re-vote" which is what you, and many other Boreites, have been demanding in a county that threw out 7,000 fewer ballots than Duval for EXACTLY the same reason.

Still waiting for a Bore supporter to stand up and be counted.

Hehehe....I believe that this election has given rank and file Democrats, one last chance to view the rot of their leadership.

Get out while you can.......leave government as your source of supply...:)

A re-vote would be just great. That way the President can be selected by a handfull of dumba$$es that couldn't figure out to to punch a ballot in the first place. Just f&*%ing wonderful.

That may be true, but how often do those ballots which are thrown out, decide who becomes the president?

If Bush would have clearly won the election, and it did not come down to a single state to decide who the president is, none of this would have happend. The fact is, this was a very close race, added to the fact that Gore won the Popular vote (which I know means nothing in winning the presidency), added to the fact that MANY people are complaining about the ballots being confusing (they seem alright to me - but as a computer technician you have to remember that you can never assume anything about idiotic customers), and that 19,000 votes were thrown out, a re-vote does not seem ludicrous. A re-vote in the one county could save a lot of time, and help determine who has won the election.

...And to think...all of this because a bunch of Democrats are not smart enough to figure out how to punch holes in a ballot! Their leaders ARE good enough to cheat in enough places to make up for it however!:D

Russ There doesn;t seem to be much reasoning going on around here lately.;)
The Pro-Bore folks keep grasping at straws. This is better than the election.

A revote in the one county would not determine who won the election on Nov 7 2000. Circumstances, voter awareness and perceptions have changed. It would allow the outcome to be changed.

In Duval County, 26,000 votes were thrown out. Let's re-vote it, too. Matter of fact, let's re-vote the whole damned country because, nationwide, the race is very close, and I'll guarantee you that millions of ballots were thrown out for the same reason.

The idea of a re-vote is stupid beyond description because it would set a precedent that would destroy the election process for all time to come. Every time one side discovered that some of their supporters screwed up, they'd be demanding a re-vote, and using this as the foundation. This is why the US Supreme Court will never allow it.

Still waiting....

What's up with you people. Why don't you just stopping yapping and trying to prove each other wrong. Every Bush supporter has turned into the biggest prick and/or asshole, trying to prove to everyone that he/she is right, and every Gore supporter is pullying crap out of his/her ass. Just let it go. Your talking/arguing/bashing won't make a difference in the election. You're acting like if the person you support wins, then you're smarter than the others, and that you're a genius for "predicting that." Atleast that what it appears to be like. If Bush wins, it doesn't mean you guys made it happen, and same with Gore. Both these guys are losers and not fit to represent America. Most people, even some of you, admit that. Yet in your bashing, you make the candidate whom you support look like the perfect man. You Gore supporters imply that Gore is a noble, intelligent man, and you Bush supporters imply that G.W. is the cleanest, least corrupt, all-american citizen. Get a hold of yourselves, and let it go.

Why are you trying to rip each other's head off? Geez...you're all acting like a bunch of uncivilized lunatics. Talking about the election is really intersting and everything, you guys have made it downright unpleasant and just sickening. You're sinking to the same level as your beloved candidates. If you're gonna bash the guys, atleast do it respectfully.

>>but how often do those ballots which are thrown out, decide who becomes the president?<<

They never have. They have been around for a long time & are part of the game. Now after the fact, Bore wants to change the rules & in just one or 2 counties.

Where did i say this discussion is not important to me? I'm just waiting patiently for a final verdict and one man to be sworn in as president. and i don't see how your bashing each man is going to make a difference. you have every right to express your views and opinions, but don't tell everyone they are idiots or wrong for believing what they do, which you guys are pretty much implying.
