haha, for two years I was the IT department at my High School. The guy we had didnt know crap about PCs, he knew about macs. Odd that they hired him, we only had about 30 macs in the whole school.

It was great though, all th teachers loved me because I saved them day in and day out, I got a free period to do it (less class = good), and I learned alot because I got to experiment with computers that weren't mine! Then they hired a real tech and I got less work because he was really good. It was fun though. I got to run and admin their network. That was probably the most exciting.

Just use the "Net Send" command and send it to everyone on the campus and let your feelings out.

During freshmen year some idiot did the net send over the entire campus and within 10mins someone came into the room and took his ID.

One of our students sent a message from "God" to *, telling them to kill their parents. Less than 2 minutes later, the student was sitting in the director's office, awaiting a verbal lashing. After realizing that one of our admins had accidently re-enabled access to net send, I deployed a policy across the network that disabled it. Deploy policy & force reboot... your friend :)

Wow, when I was a tech in high school I had admin privileges and could do whatever I felt was necessary to the computers, network, printers, tv/vcr/projector/laser disc system.

I got suspended for downing Foolproof after finishing my programs in AP Compsci. Two days out of school for that. Good luck to you man, but if all high schools are similar, then you're screwed. :(

You downloaded Foolproof? Yeah, I would have suspended you.

Haha not downloading, downing = terminating. Fairly simple, easy remedied, but still got me a suspension.

I got a three hour detention on a Saturday with my Internet privileges revoked for posting on a message board at high school. My message board to be precise.

Could you explain what exactly they said they were going to do?

Your title says your access is under evaluation, and it sounds like you are assuming that something is going to happen - not that they have said anything is going to happen.

Sorry to hear, man. Get all the teachers you can to stick up for you and try flooding the lasyass VPs office with complaints about how his vaunted IT department does exactly dick. Hope nothing bad happens to you in the end.

Damn, certainly some nasty horror stories from everyone here. My HS wasn't that bad. My friend was essentially an informal techie for them. He had all kinds of access, no one much cared. As his final "Good bye" after graduating, he switched all user accounts around, giving the students admin access and the teachers student access. Was quite amusing. The way they restored things to normal use was to reformat the whole setup, or so I hear. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

My High School was just as anal (and stupid) when it came to computers. I got suspended for one day for placing a shortcut in my account to Windows Explorer (we were not supposed to have access to the windows files/folders).

That's not why I got suspended though. The principal said that I was damaging the network's hardware (minimum one day suspension) as well as damaging the network's software (only a warning for that). All this because of my supposed "shortcut of doom" which I never even used.

Mistyped that one. Yeah... terminating would be more of a threat than downloading it.

Hmm... adults that think they know everything or kids that think they know everything... choose your poison.

except the kid actually knows a wee bit while that adult knows nothing.

I'm with the kid on this one.
Not so fast. The Principal has to deal with the beurocracy of the system just like everyone else. Although he may be ignorant of technlogy, he isn't ignorant of policy. Whether he is right or wrong, it's his butt on the line if a student is "helping" (tampering) with equipment.

I get paid - with A's. Not quite worth the work I put in, but my GPA likes it.

All was finalized (not in my favor) until my vast armada of support arrived. A few teachers offering to leave their positions, a few more speaking for my skills and a phone call to my aunt at the county help desk to verify that I "wasn't" breaking any rules (heh. heh. CONNECTIONS > THEM). Guidance office also put in a few words about my chances of doing anything with my life being 'severely impacted'

And the "exploit" (Net send) I had someone pull on the principal's machine was utter genius. I was able to tell him without even touching it exactly where in the building it had come from - and by the time he got there, my conspirator was long gone, but the DOS box was still open. Tech illiterates = teh dumb.

10 minutes later, I had a bundle of CAT5e over my shoulder and a 16 port switch under my other arm and virutal diplomatic immunity unless I get caught by someone accountable directly to a higher level (Such as IT - but they're always too busy playing Counterstrike).

So much for accountability.

I really have to learn Windows Server. It's just slightly beyond my price range. By about $20k with the number of CAL's I need (32+)...
