Uh. My computer access is under evaluation at school

Uh. Okay. I was imaging some machines today at school and had a harddrive die on me. Mind you that I only have to freaking do this because IT was supposed to do it SIX FREAKING MONTHS AGO and didn't. A member of administration came into the room while I was bent over the computer disconnecting the drive to swap in a replacement (We stopped relying on IT to replace our broken stuff as well and just pull it out of the department budget. 6 months to replace a keyboard? TEH NOEZ).

Hell was promptly raised, and this vice principal fvcktard didn't want to hear a damn thing about it out of the department chair and the other two teachers in the department, who had been sitting right there watching me do it.

No written part of the 'telecommunications' policy was ever violated in this genius' presence - I was performing a teacher-authorized action on the computer, no passwords had been compromised (Well, not in his presence, anyway) and I was in no way having a negative effect on system or network functionality.

Great - knowing how this beauracracy works, I'm essentially screwed into failing every class mildly related to anything that I intend to do with my future. Your tax dollars at work, ladies and gentlemen. IT departments that don't work, and students being punished for trying to help.

 

Be vengeful and destroy the entire network.
That should even the score with the other students.

Good grief. Mine must be the only decently functional high school in America.

I work in the IT department, district level... responsible for three schools (primarily - there are many other schools that our district runs part of their network for). If someone files a help desk ticket... we do it rather quickly (a week, at most).

And at least at my school, you would be suspended for 3 days, minimum, for tampering with school property. In most areas, teachers do not have the authority to permit anyone to change any computer components, configuration, or otherwise do anything besides typical 'end-user' work.

We don't let many people have authority in our district. But those of us who do, have quite a bit.

Yeah, my schools internet went down one day and teh next day I come back from a class I find an envolope addressed to me in my room sliiped under teh door. The letter said i had to remove my computer from teh network and call my RESnet. You know what they tell me? My computer was responsible for crashing their whole network. I leave it there for a day only for them to tell me the next day that my computer wa snot resposible and that teh software that detects this stuff was faulty and made everythign point to my IP. However, they did not let me take my computer home. I started raising hell till they finally let me have my computer.

I think I'll do a little investigation into private schooling options - my girlfriend goes to a Catholic school, and despite my not being the most religious person on earth - they like money and are generally reasonable people. Maybe I can trade a $10k/year tuition for my doing the jobs of 3 $60k/year IT turds. Of course, I'd have to get people to vouch for my skills, but that will be no problem considering the amount of work that I've done for the public school. Those bitches OWE me.

If not, I guess I'll figure somthing out - like a laptop to handle the computer courses.

I'm with the kid on this one.

At my HS, our IT dept. is made up of one man. The best way to describe him would be 'Jesus Christ.'

He is incredibly intelligent, able, and knows his stuff. Hes been in my language class four all four years (they let teachers take classes if they want them) and used to teach math . .

You hear rumors about him . . things like a class listening to teacher, dropdown celling panel is lifted up, he drops out of ceiling, replaces panel, and walks out of door without saying anything. I don't find it very hard to believe.


I guess we are just lucky, or maybe its just cause we are a Jesuit school.

The kids. They tend to be closer to the mark nowadays. IT couldn't figure out why their Dell disk images wouldn't work on a computer that was not only not the same model, not even a Dell, but not even Intel-based. Real $60k/year work there! I learned that one before I even touched a screwdriver to open my first case.

Hmmmmm......my old highschools network is too vulnerable. They do not ever patch their systems. I tried to do it one day, but the librarian(oversees comps in the library) says I don't know what I'm doing, and says you can't do that.
