Yo people, I need some advice before I make a purchase. I want to replace my 1024 PC2100 ddr (3 dimms) with 1024 PC3200 (2dimms). I'm running a socket 754 A64 on a msi k8tneo. What I'm wondering is, if this upgrade will really make my system faster? The ram I'm thinking of buying is the Kingston Value ram 1gb pc3200 dual channel pack. Newegg has them for $109 and I have a gift certificate, plus I've been feeling the urge to upgrade something. Please let me know what you think.

From what I have heard A64 don't benefit that much as P4's do at running 1:1. However using 2 dimms instead of 3 would probably be better to take some load off of the memory controller on the chip, as well as leaving room in the future to upgrade.

Yes, but the command rate and mhz increase are significant. with 3 dimms its likely at 2T.

using 3 dimms on a skt 754 athlong 64 chip, it'll cause it to run the memory at 2100, but going to to ddr400. he doulbe his memory bandwidth, he'll notice a good gain in speed.

thanks for the feedback people. Just got done ordering the sticks. I'll post my impressions in a day or two. I was getting around 1.4 gigs memory bandwith on sandra with pc2100. I'm eager to found out if I will get 3gigs bandwith with this upgrade.

So I finally received my new memory. So far I have noticed a little performance increase in bootup and browsing. Sandra says my memory bandwith is now around 2.7 gb, Before I was at 1.4 Gb. It also felt good to enable pc3200 option in bios as well. I always love tinkering with the bios when I get new hardware. Next on my upgrade list? A new videocard.

Thanks again everyone for the feedback on this purchase.

Little late to this thread but I noticed no real world performance when I changed from PC2100, 2700, or 3200 on my skt 754 A64. Unless you like looking at Sandra memory benchmarks, you would have been better off saving your money.

From PC2100 to 3200 you'll see a bigger difference than from anything past 3200. And especially considering he'll probably drop down from 2T to 1T he'll DEFINATELY see a decent boost.
