Okay I'm gettin a labtop for college and i am gettin a customized one. I have narrowed it down to the toshiba m40 or the m60. M40 specM60 spec
I'm getting it mostly for school but on the free time i would like to play hl2 and cs 1.6 or source.

M40 pros: = = M60 pros:
good screen = = great screen
okay sound = = great sound(has brand named sound card)
great graphics == okay graphics(MRX600SE with Vram 128 i hear it has
reg. keyboard == hyper memory which takes system ram =vram256)
media buttoms == full keyboard
sleek == fast ddr2 533 dc 1g
Cons: == Cons:
okay ram(ddr333 1g) == Suky graphics??

And I hate your spelling of "labtop" :p

I think the big difference is this: do you want it to be portable? If so, the M40 will be a good deal more portable than the M60.

The GF6600 and X600 are pretty close, but I think the GF6600 outperfoms it. The X600 SE definitely ranks under the other cards, but I don't know how much. I've asked my ATI contact about it, we'll see.

I would choose the M40 honestly. Its more portable, still has a 15.4" WSXGA+ screen, and decent graphics. If you REALLY want the bigger screen, the M60 will do; but you're losing out on the GPU :)

You don't really see a performance difference between DDR2 533 and DDR 333. Don't worry about it, they're both good enough; I would worry about the rest of the components. The other question of course is how much are they?

Care to give your reasons for narrowing it down to those two?

You seem to like the big 17" screen of the M60 and the better graphics of the M40. Why not get the Inspirion XPS2 which has a 17" UltraSharp screen and a 6800 Ultra which blows both of them away and is cheaper?

Then get one of the HP Media Center z8000 series. Yeah it doesn't have a Centrino, but it will play CS:Source and you wont be squinting when you come around a corner looking for enemies. That or spend a little more & get the Qosmio...since you're looking to spend $2000+ you may as well get some media center functions to play with as well.

The XPS2 is $2,349 without any coupons. That's with a Pentium M 2.0, 512MB, a combo drive, a 6800 Ultra and the best screen by default. How exactly did you manage to add $1,000 in options?

It's 1,999 with the $750 coupon. You could add 2-year on-site service, go get another 512MB at NewEgg and still only be spending $2,200. You could even upgrade to the 7200 RPM hard drive and DVD burner and still be under $2,500 before tax.
