ughhh, calling for 7-13 inches of snow next 24 hours

I was hoping for snowmageddon. However, it seems that the scientists who worked on the Mars Climate Orbiter (the one that they lost because half of them were working in imperial units, and the other half ws using the metric system) are now working for NOAA. 12-18 inches? 12-18 millimeters? What's the difference? Though, 15 out of 18 baby goats refused to come outside for a bottle this morning.

no yea crap, i was hoping it would be bad so i could "work from home"

Where was the snow? None in Pittsburgh.

In NY they got almost a foot in some places south of Rochester and Buffalo then it skipped over us and hit east and south of here. Looks like it's still snowing pretty good west of Syracuse.

i live 50 miles south of rochester, the only foots on the ground were mine when i walked to my car this morning and drove to work,

seriously unless 11.5 inches of snow has fallen in the last 3 hours while ive been at work there is no snow here

Well, it's the same here. If you look at the radar we got hammered but there isn't even a trace on the ground. What I do know is the local TV station is reporting 8-12" snow between and south of Roch and Buf with a ton of school closings. Just south of Syracuse (Cortland) got 7-10. Pretty spotty but that's certainly nothing new.

I'm between and South of Buffalo and Rochester - if you draw a line between the two, I'm due south of almost the exact center of that line. 1", mayyyyybe 1 1/2 inches.

The only places they got a lot of snow were at really high elevations; the vast majority of the population, towns, villages, cities, etc., are at lower elevations. I haven't seen any of the weather stories on television today, but I'm guessing that they're heading to those higher elevation areas in order to sensationalize how bad this is.

There are a total of 14 power outages in wny, but half of them affect only 1 customer. The biggest affects 91 customers. All of them are estimated to be restored within the next couple of hours. At a glance, one of those outages is really close to my house - I was outside to feed the goats this morning and could still see all the grass in my yard. I suspect that if anything, the outages were caused by falling limbs. The winds were really strong last night, coming from a different than normal direction.

It's been snowing all day here, on and off. However, the depth of the snow is decreasing - as I look toward the football field, it looks greener than it did this morning.

I think those reports of 10 inches come from some individual who lives up on top of a hill who found a place where the snow drifted in the wind and decided to measure there. It's like the really cold mornings around here. 5 employees will all discuss what the temperature was at their house... almost magically, they report those temperatures in perfect descending order. "It was -10 at my house." "-12 by me" "I saw -14 on my thermometer." "Negative 15, it was cold out where we live" - and they'll all live within 2 miles of one another.

the system is about 1 hour away from hitting me here. Snowfall is estimated from 1cm to 5cm.

Sure is fricken windy here.
