So... much... wasted... space!

Sad too, I liked them as a news aggregator because of how compact and easy it was to read all the headlines and one line content quickly. This new format is painfully ugly, but par for the course in a long trend of painfully ugly for Yahoo.

Over the last year Yahoo has certainly lost it's way and is painfully flailing about in the dark trying to find it. Their sports sites are terribad.

I've all but given up on using them for anything anymore. Between obnoxiously large and annoying ads tryring to dominate screen space, the move to so many "video" articles, and the random injection of stupid advertisements between article headings...it's just not worth it.

But that's just a microcosm of the internet in general. Advertising/fighting for clicks will be the death of the internet.

Yahoo was still good to browse over the latest headlines.

But they'd always get me on the "tips" articles, like "5 things not to do in a job interview" and I always click it thinking there might be some keen insight and knowledge... except it's always tips like "don't answer a cell phone call during an interview. Don't bring in and eat your breakfast during an interview." Ughh, gets me every damn time!

Anyways, yahoo still looks normal to me. Don't know.

I never liked the Yahoo home page, not since the very beginning. The modern one isnt much better or worse than before, they've all been bad.

I did like their email layout two versions ago, but that didnt last very long. They have a hard time finding things which work well and dont irritate me.

I work for a competing sports network and the analytics work we've done actually supports their layout. Their colour scheme is a horror show, though.

Apparently some people like them for their financial reporting and data

Yahoo is the last site i would use for financial reporting and data. i can't imagine many people using Yahoo Finance actually being successful investors/traders.

Their current email layout and functionality is hideous, and they have gotten a lot of flak for it. Many of us are still stuck with yahoo mail.

Their problem is they seem to change their webmail layout every couple months.

Trying to help an elderly who has always used yahoo webmail and is now having enough memory problems to prevent being able to learn Outlook, it's a major challenge keeping up with the ferocity of changes.

That layout looks fine to me. I prefer cleaner layouts with less content if the alternative is cluttered with too many options. Ideally, they should let you choose to switch back or choose exactly what you want to see displayed.

I'm that one guy who loves Windows 8/8.1 and on all devices, though, so what do I know. :p I don't use Yahoo's main page and never liked it, anyway, but better something that looks like "metro"/"modern" than the nasty iOS 7-inspired crap that's on their Fantasy Football site (which they improved and I've gotten used to, but still isn't pretty). I try to avoid any and all sites with click bait, buzzfeed-style articles and sponsored posts, which is the bigger problem for most news or other syndicated content sites than the interface.

I would gladly dump yahoo mail if there was an easy way to change email address at gazillions of places

*shrug* Just because you can't imagine it that doesn't mean it isn't true. Yahoo Finance is the biggest unique visitor finance site on a month to month basis and has some of the fastest data updates available from a free site out performing sites like Google Finance and CNN Money. We aren't talking about it being acceptable for a day trader or offering in depth comparisons like a Thomson Reuters HC report but for updates it certainly has its place as a useful tool.

As for those people being successful the guy who told me about it started managing small accounts and now has $900M under management including millions of his own. Seems pretty successful to me. Others like the Improbable Millionaire and various investing sites (Investopedia, Fool.com, Bogleheads) refer to it often as a useful tool

It may or may not work...

I did this trick for someone who was experiencing problems with yahoo mail during one of their massive re-architectures. It was a problem many also were experiencing with no solution other than this.

Installed an add-in to Chrome that changed the browser identification to IE6 for yahoo's site only. Yahoo would pick up on that and revert the site the browser receives to an old layout.

There's a chance this will work here too.

First, I appreciate the posting. Second, if I have to do browser tricks to go back to the old layout, then I'll ditch Yahoo for everything other than e-mail. Goddamn metro looks on everything!:mad::rolleyes::mad:
