Ok, per this thread, I got my new RMA drive.
A little computer info:
I now have 4 drives; the new 80gb, the Maxtor 60gb, a WD 20gb and another WD Expert 18gb, all 7200rpm.
The 18gb drive is my oldest(4+ years of 24/7 operation), and it contains all of my "oldschool" stuff, from my BBSing days and other stuff from the mid 90s. It also contains all my email; every email I've sent/recieved since I first got on teh intarweb.
Anyway, I decide to use DiskImage to ghost my drive so I don't have to reinstall Windows. To do this, I had to switch my drive configuration around.. No big deal.
I do that, and boot up. The 80 and 60gb drives, which are on my IWill KK266-R's raid channels(not raided) didn't detect. No biggy, I think.. so I reboot just to be sure.
When I reboot, I notice that the model number the BIOS reports for my 18gb Expert is all corrupted. Strange, I think.. so I reboot a few more times and it stays the same. I shut down, and fiddle with the cables, make sure they're all seated. The RAID channel cable needed to be seated.
I boot up, it detects the 18gb drive OK, and is now detecting the 80 and 60gb drives. Great. I load windows, and run disk image. I didn't think to check the status of my 18gb drive at the time.
ETA is about 9 hours. I go to bed. When I wake up, it is done and booted into Windows. Everything appears to be fine.
I go to check my email; Run F:\eudora\eudora.exe
The disk in drive F is not formatted.
Do you want to format it now?
*blank stare*
NOOOEEESSS!!!! :Q
Panic mode ensues. I run Partition Info.
The volume name, vendor ID and FAT type are all corrupted(random strange characters). Wonderful.
I shut down and switch the drive to a different cable. Load windows, same story. Great. Time to try a lower level access.
I dig my Windows 98 DOS boot CDRom W/ cdrom support out, and load it up.
SUCCESS! I can see the drive, and access my files. However, there is mild to moderate corruption in the root directory. It does not appear to extend into any subdirectories.
I quickly copied my email and other important things to another drive.
Now here I am, waiting for my brother to bring over Partition Magic so I can fix my 80gb's partition(DiskImage only partitioned the ammount of space the image took up), so I can back up my WD 20gb drive, and then finally back the rest of the 18gb drive up.
Good times.
So my question is.. Why does it always have to be something with computers?
