For Christmas dinner we had a plate of pasta with meat on it. In the middle of the meal my cousin tells us its Buffalo meat!!!!! I have to admit it didn't taste that much different then beef. But I would have liked the choice to say no!

Anyone else have this? Or a more rare kind of meat?

Buffalo is red meat just like beef, but leaner. A little too lean for the BBQ in my opinion, but it makes wonderful burgers and stews.

I've had buffalo jerkey (which has both buffalo meat and regular beef jerkey in it). It was very tender. I also learned a very important lesson. Don't leave jerkey where the cat can get into it.

Why what happens? heh..

I guess I would eat them the same, it's not like I favor eating a cow over a buffalo!

Buffalo is great. Tastes like a cross between Snowy Owl and Bald Eagle. Actually some places that serve buffalo burgers have to add some beef just as a binding agent to hold the burger together since its such low fat it just falls apart.

I had an ostrich steak once. Tasted like a beef steak. It was good. I'd eat buffalo, no problem.

It's meat meat. Buffalo is a mammal, like cattle, sheep and you. It's the perfect suggestion if you want something that doesn't taste like rattlesnake... err... rabbit... err... chicken. 🙂

I've had alligator before, it was very chewy but still good. I think my grandfather boiled it first then fried it. I've also had rattlesnake buffalo. Cant think of any other weird animals right now i've eaten.

conversation my friends had ...

Lush: "Where do you buffalo wings really come from?"
Adam: "Uh, from buffalo"
Rebeca: "Yeah, lush you didn't know that?"
::silence::
Lush: "uh they really dont come from buffalo..."
Rebeca: "oh right.."

Buffalo, rattlesnake, alligator, frog, ostrich, venison, rabbit, squirrel, shark. Depending on where you are from some of those won't seem strange at all. I didn't care for the rabbit and squirrel.

The last time I had venison, I was at a nice resturaunt here in the midwest with a guy from Microsoft and a guy from Portugal. The guy from MS was really excited and convinced the guy from Portugal to order it since we are in deer country. They were a bit put off by the fact that it was properly prepared, which means almost raw.

buffalo isnt rare anymore... they are ranching them now... its not like someone went out into the "Great Plains" and culled one from the last 50 of them left alive with a Sharps 50... Its not rare, more like unusual.
