Ugh, this issue makes me want to get rid of my Ipod

I'm guessing due to the scroll wheel that changes volume, my iPod's volume will intermittently spike to make a huge "bang" for a second when I change songs. This happens as the iPod is already maxed out in volume (it's connected to my car), so it literally spikes above max volume.

I'm surprised the almighty Apple gods or the Apple peons do not complain about this more.

Does anyone get this very often?

I've never run into that, but my only Apple MP3 player for the last 3 years has been iPhones. But I don't recall that issue on the Nano that I had previously, and I definitely don't run into it on my iPhone.

Can you just lower the max volume to something that isn't so loud?

Nope, it's connected to the car stereo, so it needs to have max volume in source stage for best quality, instead of amplifying the sound too much at the speakers.

Maybe this issue can't really be seen much if you use headphones.

I almost exclusively use my iPod in my car, and have never had that problem. Nor have I ever had that problem with any of my previous 3 iPods. I have other issues, lock ups, weird song skips, inaccurate battery meter, but never any volume problems. Any chance your iPod is under warranty and you can get it replaced?

And don't knock Steve's Almighty Fruit... it is delicious

If you'll direct your attention to how the forum is set up for a minute here... the All Things Apple section is under SOFTWARE and this is clearly a HARDWARE issue.

hmm, that is strange. I have an ipod and an iphone and haven't run into this issue. I just tested it out on my drive home and no problem. Does it occur if you turn the volume down like 1 or 2 notches?

On my Honda Civic, I bought a gizmo called a "HON-AUX" for about $40 which connected to the auxillary input on the stereo of my Honda Civic's factory stereo. Installation wasn't too hard - rather than take apart the entire dashboard panel, I followed the instructions on a blog somewhere and threaded my hand (and the AUX) up the back of the instrument panel from underneath and plugged it in. I removed a fair bit of skin on the back of my hand in the process... but skin grows back.

To use it, I select AUX on the Stereo and then hit play on the iPhone/iPod. MJinz is right though - in my case max volume results in best sound. I can lower the iPhone volume and crank up the stereo but I get more noise that way.

My wife's new Outback has an MP3 port on it which made it disappointingly easy.

Is the Aux port in your car included or did you put it in yourself? I put a new head unit into my car in order to get the Aux port (and a truly worthless USB port and SD Card slot), so if you did the same, is it possible that something there is messed up?

Nope, it's a standard feature.

Have you tried swapping cables then? I had audio drop-out for a while in my car until i replaced the cable.

on my old nano i get a spike once in a while when its connected to the aux port, but my kids itouch doesnt seem to do that. when i use my nano on the usb port i have no issues at all, and the HU i have has built in ipod controls (but not new enough to include the itouch) that work very well. i think its probably a combo of the HU quality as well as mebbe an ipod software thing. mine is a mid range HU. the zuneHD doesnt have to be turned full volume to sound great in my truck tho, the ipods do.

I have a nano too (current gen 16gb). Anyway, yea I may consider a Zune but iTunes software is just too much better than everything else.

you really like the itunes better than zune software? im used to itunes, but i find myself using the zune software for everything else besides updating my and my kids ipods. my nano is a 1st gen tho, got it for free way back when.

Yep, Itunes makes proper use of available desktop space and superior playlist and music organization. WMP sucks in this regard.

Uh... just so you know, WMP is NOT the Zune software. If you're talking about liking itunes over WMP that's fine, but that doesn't mean you like it over Zune software. Completely separate things there.

I don't care if I'm the only person this happened to, here's my experince with the Zune software. I installed it, didn't tell it to do shit to my music collection as I had all my cover art and tags perfect. The Zune software proceeded to fuck up a good 80% of my collection, my tags were all wrong and it seemed to randomly change my album art. I'm still trying to fix everything it fucked up. I wouldn't use the Zune software unless I had a Zune, because I know I'm not the only person who's had it mess up my music royally.

yes, it does that quite well. i have it on 3 of my puters at home and 2 at work, despite the fact that i only sync up with one at my house. i really like that if i restructure my library (which i just did) it automatically updated in the zune software, but when my daughters wanted to get the new stuff on their itouches i had to redo the library file in itunes for it to see it correctly. it found the new music just fine, but didnt re list the stuff that changed location. so, i had abouot 500 songs that would error out and say they couldnt be found. annoying.

and i do use WMP for some things, it is linked to my library as well. i sync my winmo phone to it, it keeps the music files updated. also, the songs my son acquires on his zunHD will sync to my phone as well, using his drm for my phone as well as his zhd. bonus there.
